Hi everybody, I wondered if 550 euro were a fair price for an old B&O Jet 505K, in good, but far from perfect condition? Thank you for your opinions, Cheers, Laurent.

350 TO 550 Euro is correct for the current price. Mind you, 550 would tend towards the category of " almost or near perfect. " Old tube radios are an enjoyable collection hobby, but do require a good source of parts occasionally. I'm not sure of your restoration experience, but I might suggest that the radio chassis, vacum tubes, knobs, grille, and capacitors be examined for both authenticity and functionality at that price. Use a little care and caution when powering up, cleaning, and replacing old tubes. The Jet 505 K is a beautiful work of art, and as an antique will require periodic care to maintain. It would look very attractive displayed next to any B & O stereo system.

Thank you for your reply. As you guessed, my restoration experience is non-existing, so i'll get patient, and will go to Denmark to check everything live... That radio is worth the trip... I'm just in love with the Beolit 39 / Jet 505K shape, these are the heart of B&O, in my opinion, and I'm dreaming about displaying a Jet aside with my BC9300 and BC2, two other icons of the Brand... Cheers, Laurent.

Laurent; Vous avez de la chance ! Danmark is beautiful this time of year. Take as much time as you can to see the countryside: " Le Ferme " in Struer if you can. I'm sure it would be memorable. Back to your project: There are a number of websites with Jet 505k photos, but alas not many with restoration techniques. The wood veneer is one aspect ( fun, but relatively minor ). The chassis and inner works are more important. You might find the following website link of help, with emphasis on tubes, etc. http://bellsouthpwp.net/p/a/padgett46/tohome.htm You will note that although this is a different radio outside, the inner tube workings are similar for late 1940 early 1950 SW models. I hope this is of help. Robaire

Hmmm . . . The link did not work very well. Try this: http://padgett.performanceresearch.us/ This is a North American website, and once there, click on Transoceanics. I hope this works better this time. Cheers !

The JET505K is relatively rare. The last one I saw sold for apprx EUR 1600 and it was complete but in need of restoration. They rarely sell for less than EUR 1000. EUR 550 seems a bargain and if you are looking for a JET505K you really should think about it, they don't come up very often. Electronic repairs are indeed possible but of course not every repairshop take valve things in. Optics are essential and in my opinion the hardest part to restore. Martin

One of these just sold for a paltry $395. The seller implies, but doesn't actually state that it's in working condition.
Where are all the collectors?

Just returned from Brasil on business, and saw the post.
It is as if the one sold was the one featured in the book. Beautiful Danish wood veneer, much better than the Bakelite finish.
Considering the included case, and the photographs, someone bought a real treasure !

This is the one from the Thogersen collection. A large part of his collection has travelled around in the states in custom built flightcases for a couple of years and it seems most of it ended up in the garage of a danish B&O employee living in Chicago from where it was eventually sold (not the actual seller of this listing).
Someone got the bargain of the year here.

Saw that and was shocked about the calculated shipping cost (413$ to Holland)!

Add duty and VAT to the whole amount for EU import and it's still a bargain.

Still Martin, it's a fact that this Jet has been sold for cheap and it looks like it's going to be a trend on Ebay, in other words low selling prices

In other words BUY! BUY! BUY !
A 220V set will usually not see a huge interest in the states. I'm sure, it would have reached a higher selling price if listed in Europe. Parts concerns too, I suppose.
