Can you get Quad Cassette decks? Would that mean you could only use one side of the Cassette? As you would need all four tracks on the tape.

For me the essential is a Beosound 3000 or 3200. I recently traded my 3200 for a BS9000, and i think deep down i miss the 3200, i miss waving my hand in front of the doors and i miss the look of it. Dont get me wrong i love the 9000, but the 3200 was my first B&O and i think if i had my time again i would have kept it. SWMBO never wanted me to swap so i havnt told her i made a mistake. Ssshhhh.

    Re: The essentials!

I personally think that the Beolab 5000 system, along with the stereo spatial width control, Beovox 5000 Beovox 2500 is a great suggestion, I wish I could get my hands on the BeoThoren turntable, but I can compensate myself by having the Beogram 3000 Acoustical, which might even be rarer.

I'd also strongly recommend a reel to reel machine with this system, probably the Beocord 2000 delux, which I unfortunately don't have, so I make do with a couple of Beocord 2400 - one 2+4 track one 4 track only.

This system is not something you tend to move around the house much!

The next one would have to be the Beogram 4000 along with a Beomaster 4400 and perhaps the speakers need to be Beovox M100 and although its a slight cheat, the cassette machine probably should be a Beocord 2400, I've not been able to get the speakers but the Beovox 5700 make a very suitable alternative.

I think a goodly collection from the Beomaster 3000 derived units is something for a collector to aim for, there are quite a few to choose from.Thise discrete amps seem to have a better sound than the stylish 1900-4500 range.

I think that only in stylistic terms, something from the Beomaster 1900 range is something a collector should have, plenty of alternatives here from the 1900 right on through to the Beosystem 4500, I would plump for the Beosystem 3500, decent cd player, decent cassette, relatively cheap compared to the 4500.

Beosystem 8000 with Beocord 9000 along with the huge Beovox M150 would be rather nice and very symbolic of B&O style.

Something from the Beomaster 5000 styled stuff, I think probably the Beosystem 6500 or 7000 since the Beolab Pentas are also high on the list.

The Beosound 9000 is very much a B&O icon and has been widely copied, very badly usually, this should be coupled with the Beolab 1s

I'm not too sure about the BeoCenter 2, I do think a good Beocentre 3500 is an essential. the Beocentre 2500 is also an essential - the sliding glass doors were such a feature back when it first came out and something that got the punters interested, especially the way it broke free of certain physical constraints by having the power amp section in the speakers and so creating a differant concept.

In terms of tvs, you'd have to include the Avant or Beocentre 1 there are older tvs that also were striking such as the LX series and some of the earlier still delta tubed tvs which still have fantatic pictures.

A set of the soldiers is essential, perhaps a Beotime, a portable radio or two, mugs and other bits and bobs.

Other stuff has already been mentioned.

    Re: The essentials!

The problem with this thread is that it's closer to 'which B&O products aren't classics?'. There are very few B&O pieces over the years which aren't special for people in one way or another. Sure there have been duff products, but almost all B&O products are loved as much as others by some people.

Don't agree! There are a number of products which are worthy and good products but which would not obviously be a star part of a collection.

The Beomaster 2200 comes to mind. A superb product with excellent sound , but just not as flamboyant as the 2400 or as hi-fi as the 4400 with which it co-existed.

    Re: The essentials!

    Beomaster 1000
Nice receiver indeed but a headache for a collector like I.
Some have danish dials, others only the channel and frequency figures.
Some are germanium, some silicium, some have a voltage setting switch, others are built for one voltage only etc.etc.etc.
At least 17 basic types and at least 100 subversions.
I have about 60 or 70 or these and my collection is far from complete.
F.e. I still miss any version(s) with 6 voltages at the setting switch, I've only seen photos.
Also heard of versions with RCA plugs instead of DIN's but haven't been able to confirm the existence.
Add to this a selection of woodsorts ... truely a headache ...

Any collector should own at least one.

    Re: The essentials!

I can't really comment on all of the exotica mentioned in this thread - all I know is that the only system I ever lusted after was the 5000 system. I've had it (at least in part) from new, and would never part with it although I would quite like a CD5500 instead of my CD50 (just because it is more elegant in operation, and therefore more B&O-like). I'm less attached to my (original) RL60's and am still considering replacing them with active speakers (BL8000's or BL3's) and although the BM5000 doesn't have facility to connect to powerlink it does have "direct" line out whereby the 6500 or 7000, which can connect directly to active speakers, use padded down, main amp out signals whereas the 5000 can properly bypass the power amp if required, avoiding an uneccessary amplification stage. It would make an interesting comparison.

Most items in this particular section are all fairly well documented and numbered and I do have a fairly good memory of what I own, so yes I would notice.  Laughing

The majority of my collection, however, is still packed in large boxes
and stored away in different locations so even if I went there
to take a photo you wouldn't really see more than just plain boxes.

I've collected B&O since 1976, main focus on pre-1990 audio products, Beomasters, Beocords, Beograms, Beocenters, Beovox, microphones etc. etc. but also other things B&O.
It's not necessarily paradise, f.e. it does take up a lot of room and I will never get to complete the collection, frustrating.

Looping lunatic I suppose but didn't you ever try collecting anything ? Laughing

There is collecting and COLLECTING!! Yours is a real collection - one I dare say B&O are envious of. Quite an archive! Have you got the 3600 or 2300 yet? Laughing

    Re: The essentials!

Yes, both but only the Beocenter 3600 in palisander (arrived from the UK completely damaged but has now been restored) and 2x beomaster 2300 in teak (last one from Lee, thanks!) so still missing a couple of finishes. Also missing the Beovox C2300 - it never ends.

I take it that the C2300 is a C class speaker specifically designed for the 2300 system?! Never even heard of that one!

We will have to meet up when I next come to Denmark!

    Re: The essentials!

Yes, the Beovox C2300 is a rebadged Beovox C40 sold in the Netherlands for use with exactly the Beomaster 2300.

I also miss the Beovox 3800 which were a UK only model. Unlike the C2300 this was a unique speaker and not just a rebadged one. They come up from time to time but are too heavy for most people to ship across the water. Besides, I am not really active collecting anymore (- yeah right !). Embarrassed No seriously, I am always looking out for items I never had before - if for nothing else than documenting and to be able to say that I once had one.   Laughing

We ran a bit off topic here I'm afraid, in that these speakers etc. are not really essential B&O things, they are merely of interest to collectors.

Yes, we saw photos of it on the old forum. I clearly remember. But I don't recall if we ever found out the type number and eventual subversion...
