Spurred on by another thread, what pieces should every B&O collector have in his collection? Maybe three suggestions each! I would suggest : Beogram 400X Beomaster 1900/2400 etc Beomaster /Beolab 5000 What do you think? Obviously the way to do this is to think of three different pieces to those above or listed following this and if you disagree with a selection, say why and suggest something else. We should end up with a definitive list - and probably a tiny percentage of what some of our more keen members actually have!

The essentials - is easy for me Beolab 5000 / Beomaster 5000 / Beovox 5000 / Beovox 2500 Cube / StereowidthRegulator / Beogram 3000 (Thorens TD 124-II) --- these products are really great, sound / design / styling. After a total restoration the sound of the complet system is really great. I do go for systems when I choose products, I know how much work the engineers have done to uptimize the sound of a full system disigned to work together. Beomaster 1200 / Beomaster 1001 --- this is really the Jakob Jensen styling I do enjoy very much on this set. Beomaster 1000 --- a really fine design one of the very first receivers / amplifiers designed with transistors by B&O Beomster 1900 / 2400 --- a real break i stying for B&O /Frede

I didn't have to think hard here:
Beomaster 8000 - the most powerful receiver made by B&O, and still very desirable on the second hand market today. It's great to watch the uninitiated fiddle about with the volume and get a kick out of seeing the LED volume display go up and down as quickly/slowly as you turn the wheel. The technology seems really dated to us now, but I haven't met anyone who doesn't like the HUGE LED readouts, or the fact that the 8000 is the size of a suitcase!
Beolit 600 - an absolute design classic. Still sounds great for what it is, and you only need to look at the second hand market to appreciate how desirable they still are.
Beosystem 5000 - first of the line of the 80s stackable separates, and though it wasn't the best in terms of the features the 7000 ended up with, I'm a sucker for the first in the line of any product, as these tend to be the purest expression of what the designer had in mind. I also think that the amp in the 5000 is one of the sweetest I have heard :)

Can't disagree with the first - simply wonderful. The BM1200 for me epitomises the system approach as it sound best when used with the 1200 speakers! Not so hot with more modern speakers like the S45-2. Which 1000? White or black? I think I would go for the germanium white one! They lost some features when updated.

Well... there are 'my essentials' and 'THE essentials' from a purists point of view..
My essentials are my all time favourites, and what i consider to be icons of my time in B&O. They are..
BeoCenter 9500 (beautiful, magical, powerful - and my favourite ever piece of B&O)
BeoSystem 7000 with BeoLink 7000 and BeoLab Penta Mk3 as a 'system' (ohhhh... yesss!!! )
BeoVision Avant 32" DVD (in Black) - by far the best TV ever made
What i consider to be the must haves from a purely unselfish point are..
Beolab 5000 / Beomaster 5000 / Beovox 5000 / Beovox 2500 Cube (Frede, you sold me on that one!)
BeoCenter 9500 with BeoLab 8000's (what a stunning combination to look at as well as listen to)
BeoSound 3000 with BeoLab 3 (how can something so compact sound so big?!! - a modern classic)

Hmmm - I have a chance to buy a Beocenter 9500, which looks to be in very good condition. You seem pretty convinced here, Lee? Apart from that I seem pretty set.
Yet, looking back at all B&O creations it's really hard to to decide, isn't it? I guess we're disregarding the classic TVs because of all that's happening on that front. (I caught the Avant, Alex). On to audio then. I'm dreaming of having this in place one day. In perfect working order and mint condition. Keep dreaming, I will. (Yoda).
Beomaster 1200 Beogram 1200 Beocord 1200 with Beovox 1200 speakers. All in white. Look at the pure geometry: http://www.beocentral.com/products/bc1200-or

Very suprised that nobody has mentioned the Beomaster 6000 Quad yet. As Peter as mentioned already the Beomaster 1000 and it has to be the White version. Still must get mine fixed. Agree with those who have said Beosystem 7000 and Beocenter 9500. Carol still goes on about how I sold our Beocenter 9000 to buy a Beosound 3000. Finally what about the Beomaster 4000. Such a wonderful sounding amp. Craig

Nobody mentioned the 4400 either! A fantastic receiver.
I suppose the ultimate B&O collector's item would be a topline system, although there were only 6 made so that's a bit far-fetched...

Peter: Design, yes. Sound quality - less so. It is in essence a double Beomaster 901 - though obviously beefed up a bit. The 3400 sounds better.
You speaking of the Quad here, Peter? For me it's the looks/function of these complete sets - though I have to watch it so I don't turn my house into a B&O museum...

Well if I am being critical of the 6000 quad (I do have one, so I do like it!), it would be because: 1. The components are not remote control, only the receiver. A friend has told me that it is possible to get a BG4004 working with a 6000 but it does require a bit of work! 2. No quad cassette deck. 3. The power amplifier is just not as good as some of the others around at this time. 4. The top is perspex and not glass. Just little things but they add up.

Beosystem 7000, Penta's & BL7000. Gotta have the turntable as well though. I have had mine for some time now and wouldn't swap it for ANY current music system. Beolink 1000 has to be the most essential piece of kit though. Very easy to use, bullet proof and controls just about everything B&O have produced in recent years. Chris.

Peter, Yes, of course the original - white Beomaster 1000. Actually - do you know B&O have produced 3 versions of Beomaster 1000 ? Beomaster 1000 - 2301 - white - germanium semiconductor design Beomaster 1000 - 2312 - dark grey- germanium semiconductor design Beomaster 1000 - 2317 - dark grey - silicon semiconductor design I do believe the 2312 is a bit rare /Frede

I do have three different service manuals for the 1000 - not sure what the type numbers are though! I know Martin collects these and has a fair number all of which seem different! I had a white one and very nice it sounded too! I used it to play my 78s with a Beogram 1000! Finding the correct stylus was a challenge though!
