You've got to be kidding me...

    How nuts is this?

With my BM3000-2 silent I have been without sound at the other house for a while, a year now actually. I've just come home after a long hard day and now my BS4500 is starting to make funny noises!! I will soon be without any functioning Beo. I already listen to my A8s enough as it is (about 4 hrs daily) and with their increased duty due to my other Beo being out of action, they will probably wear out soon after my 4500 goes silent.

School has just started and I don't have the time to recap all of my equipment! Super Angry

    Seriously?!?! Come on...

This is turning out to be more of a rant than cry for help.

This is the typical "repaired, works like charm, missed something, down again".

You will have to put in some extra hours and get it running again, wish you luck.Sad

My 4500 has been faultless for my entire ownership. I have been planning on re-capping my BeoSystem 4.5K but wasn't quite ready to do it now.

Driving home tonight, I was pretty geared up to post on the "What's playing RIGHT now" thread... Ah well.

... at some point you will do a full recap plus other work as well only to have something unaccounted for go bad a short time later. It is the nature of this beast. You will never be able to fully anticipate everyting.

The joke is that B&O stands for "Breaks & Often".  Perhaps some truth in this.

Any B&O older than 20 years is a hit an miss in how it will work for you at any given time.

Often the reason for selling would be some faults anyway with products of that age.

Once a qualified service has been done which is needed in most cases then its time to enjoy it.

Re: You've got to be kidding me...

That's fine with me Richard, just wish I had the time to deal with it. I think the timing of this event is my real gripe.

Perhaps not Bob, in my 4500's 23 year history, this is its first hiccup. I don't call that often. While I am very pleased with this, I just wish it could have waited until next summer. I guess that's what I get for conciously skipping the chore this summer.

Friedmett, this unit was given to me because of its exterior problems - separated glass, bad mirror and such.

That is very kind Rich! I think I would be too worried about it! Wouldn't want to put unecessary miles on it.

    I was planning on using my iPod/PC -> Niles SI-275 -> JBL E80

Re: You've got to be kidding me...

Well after a very long break from the 4500 I have returned to it. Friday I gave a demo to a friend and the Master only let out a few peeps, but nothing like the earlier symptoms.

Presently listening to the BeoSystem 4500 and my Labs and enjoying it immensly -even though I am still adjusting back to the sound.

Now that I am around my 4500 again, I'll be getting into it for a cap-count and order those soon. I am planning to have this completed around Thanksgiving-ish.
