    Beosound 1 and Airport Express

    Hi,

I wondered if anyone might have some experience of using an Airport Express through a Beosound 1, particularly via a DAC such as the CYP AU-D3 rather than using the analogue outputs? I'm wondering if any potential improvement in quality is worth the extra hassle?

Managed to get a pretty clean Besound 1 via eBay, it arrived today and I've been blown away by the quality from such a relatively small box.

Also thanks to Matt at Lifestyle AV for finding a stand to go with it!

for ME, the word ebay has a link (copy and paste shows http://forum.beoworld.org/forums/t/40679.aspx#) but leads to a spam site...

Sorry to bother... I will check with trend micro and malware antibytes stuff...

Re: Beosound 1 and Airport Express

To answer your question (sort of), I personally believe that the BS1 offers a enough audio fidelity to benefit from a higher quality DAC than found in the AE.  On the other hand, we all hear differently so why don't you try the BS1/AE without the DAC, and then add a DAC if you're not happy with the sound.  Keep in mind, however, if you're streaming fairly compressed music (perhaps below 192kb), a higher quality DAC may not yield much (if any) audio improvements.  Some report a worse audio experience using a high quality DAC against a fairly compressed source (perhaps in the same way very good speakers make badly recorded music sound worse).

Btw, congrats on your purchase.  The BS1 was the first B&O product I bought over 10 years ago.  I still listen to it in my office almost daily.  Beware, the BS1 can be just a beginning... it has led me to many bigger and much more expensive B&O purchases since then...

    Thanks Stan,

I think you're right, I'm already thinking about getting another beosound 1!
