    5500 system

A long-time close friend of mine and fellow B&O enthusiast has just purchased a full 5500 system via eBay. He used to own a 5000 system in the 1980s and always regretted selling it.

Here's a couple of questions he asked me, which I said I would post to the forum:-

He remembers (he thinks) that there was an optional remote to the Master Control Panel, which was similar in design, but perhaps only as quarter of the width. Is he correct and if so, what's it called please?

Next, some of the buttons on the MCP are a bit 'sticky' and he wonders what he can do to free them up. Electrcal contact spray/lubricant?

Or would he be better opening the MCP and cleaning within and if so, is this fairly straightforward?

    Thanks.

    Re: 5500 system

A Terminal 5000 has been available for the Beosystem 5000 - but not for the 5500 (different remote control codes).

No idea about the MCP, but for everyday use I suggest a Beolink 1000.

Just to make sure, we are now talking about 5500 with a Beomaster 5500? Beomaster 5000 was different, it used its own exclusive remotes and that doesn't apply here. He's right in that a smaller remote existed (Terminal 5000) but it can't be used with a 5500.

What he wants is simply a Beolink 1000. All later remotes incl. Beo4 will work, but the 1000 is the most convenient for this purpose.

Don't spray anything on the outside of the MCP, I'm quite sure it'll only make a mess. Probably something has spilled on the buttons earlier and they are now binding mechanically. Opening it up and cleaning the buttons and the front panel should be avoided by people with two left thumbs, but it's not a too difficult job otherwise.

Thanks very much for those responses. I will send him a link to this page so that he can view the advice for himself.
