Not sure how long it advance you will be travelling but Queensday in Holland (and especially Amsterdam) is great. 30th of April, 1 million people all over Amsterdam having a 24H dance-party. And you're allowed to drink on the streets and in parks with friends and family. To me normal, but to my Swedish friends an absolute eye-opener.

Not my cup of tea but most people seem to like this. If you decide to come to Holland, just let me know Smile

Sounds great fun ! but we will miss it as we plan to arrive mid-May

    Elephant,

Are you considering a road trip throughout Europe

definetly planning a road trip !

    Ferdinand:
But when you are in Stokcholm you might want to go to Helsinki as well, or the Baltics, or Russia?

Yes, we were condidering that -- St Petersburg would be worth a visit, but I wanted to avoid the hassles of Russian visas etc etc

    Ferdinand:
Being Dutch and always and still impressed by quality of life and tempus/tempo of life in the Nordics I am affraid that that will not make or break it for you coming from a country which is (in my perception) relaxed and with plenty of space for all

Not so sure about is being relaxed these days ... we used to say Australians worked hard and played hard ... nowdays we all seem to be working longer and longer hours ... but at least summer time has started so you can go to work at 6:30am in the sunshine and come home at 7:30pm in the sunshine Laughing

There are actually some organized visa-free cruises from Helsinki to Leningr St Petersburg - but I couldn't find a quick answer on whether it is only for EU residents or some such. Also, as it is Russia, the conditions can change on a short notice...

    Hej,

Looks like we are waiting for Lee;-)

During the meantime I have checked my trip and asume flying to Karup (ca.45km) or Billund (110km) and taking a rental car from there. Unfortunately there are nearly no direct connections from Munich coming close to Struer.

    coming close to Struer

Exactly, that's why we decided to drive the whole distance by car. Will save us these reservations for car rentals, train tickets...

And we can easily wait for Lee to give exact numbers as the hotel reservations have been made by him...

Mhh, well, that is round about 1200km.

I do not like to drive that long distances.

    Dear Larskoelle,

    I've got a suggestion:

Take your bicycle on train to Bielefeld (or send it by special transport arranged by my bicycle dealer just around my corner to me (about 30€)), stay a night here and then we take a 6day trip by bicycle to Struer (only 600km left). Start on sunday noon as a roll in to a friend of mine, arrival on Saturday afternoon in Struer. Thus it is less than 100km a day. I am sure there is quite enough to see on this trip ..

Way back I am still thinking about an alternative by bicycle or train
