    Beolab 5 cannot work properly with MX7000....

    Well yesterday my "second-life" Beolab 5's were delivered and installed by the B&O dealer. Absolutely gorgeous and I'm a happy man, but....

    I turned out the BL5 cannot be connected without clicking problems to my 1999 MX7000 (clicks upon e.g. volume control) and my near perfect solution that I had up to now does not work (the BL5's replacing my BL8000):

    I had BL8000 connected to MX7000. MX7000 via  Audio AUX connected to Beosystem 2300 and my pair of BL3's connected to the 2 PL sockets of the 2300. This allowed individual volume control of the BL8000 and BL3. Worked like a charm for some years now!

    So with BL5 instead of 8000's this yielded the clicks. We then figured: ok let's connect the new BL5 to the 2300 and the BL3's to the MX7000. But helas, on e.g. volume control, skip, on/off, the BL5's were making clicks, albeit less loud and frequent than before.

    Needless to say the BL5's work perfectly when the AUX datalink connection is unplugged :-)

    But there also is no (obvious) problem when all 4 speakers are connected, via PL splitter, to the 2300 (and MX7000 AUX connected). This is how we ended up last evening, but that leaves me without independent volume control of BL3, which are way too loud for their position.

    With the B&O dealer we concluded the MX7000-BL5 incompatility is the culprit. Best solution we could think of so far is replacing MX7000 with e.g. a second life BV7 or BV4  and then again connect the BL5 to the TV and the BL3 to the 2300, along with a ML coverter and ML cable replacing the current AUX datalink connection.

    But keen to hear your thoughts on all this!!

    Are you using the shielded Powerlink cables , that are usually delivered with Bl5s?

    My BL5s were connected to an AV9000 with a BS7000. Everything was working fine. Even the BG CD7000 was directly connected to BL5 via spdif.

    So, I think your Powerlink cables might be the problem. Try PL MK III. This cable has additional wire on PIN 7.

    The cables of the BL5 are the ones brought along by the dealer and did seem highly knowledgable -- but the again, I'm not!

    Before connecting the BL5 to MX7000 -with the new cables he had brought along- he said he had seen the day before that BL5 was not on the MX7000 compatibility list (or visa versa), but said "let's try it anyway". Huge clicks appeared immediately. I'm at my work now, so can't double check the exact BL5 cables, but I'm quite sure it the correct one, the thicker type, which I think should be MKII.

    From what I've read here (e.g. from Steve) and elsewhere MKII is the recommended one and not MKIII for BL5. My BL3 cables are MKIII btw, so I could try.......

    Re: Beolab 5 cannot work properly with MX7000....

    Sorry, my mistake. Actually I was talking about MK II, not MK III. They are the ones with the extra wire - or use fully wired ones.

    What I`m wondering is, why shouldn`t it work with an MX7000? As said, it worked with my AV9000, and that`s just a "pimped up" MX.

    Ok, it must have a different amplifier/powerlink modul, because of the surround decoder, so....(?)

    But you said, there were the same clicks, when you connected BL5s to your BC2300? So, it can`t be the MX...(?)

    And the clicks disappeared, when you connected all speakers to the BC2300 via PL splitter?? Strange.

    Sounds for me like a ground/shield problem....

    Try to unplug the antenna connections of the MX7000 and the BeoCenter 2300 and check if the problem still appears. It might be a ground loop.

    Re: Beolab 5 cannot work properly with MX7000....

    Stefan, thanks for thinking along. No: when the BL5 are connected to the 2300 there is no problem, the problem arises again -albeit to a lesser extend- when in addition the BL3's are connected to the MX7000.

    BL8000 --> MX7000 <--AUX --> 2300 <-- BL3  : no problem (old situation).

      BL5    --> MX7000 <--AUX --> 2300 <-- BL3  : loud clicks on Beo4 commands (desired configuration if clicks would go!).

    BL5 --> MX7000:  loud clicks on Beo4 commands

    BL5 --> 2300 no problem at all

    MX7000 <--AUX--> 2300 <-- BL5 + BL3 (/w PL splitter):  no audible problem; but lacks independent volume control

    BL3 --> MX7000 <--AUX--> 2300 <-- BL5 various clicks on various Beo4 commands (but less loud). Clicks on BL5's only.

    hope this clarifies the observations.....any further thoughts / suggestions highly welcome!

    I'll try that antenna suggestion at the earliest opportunity, i.e. tommorow evening and will let you know what happened !

    Good one. Worth a try!

    BTW. MX 7000 is not on the compatibility list of BL5 does NOT mean, that it won`t work. It just says, that Beo didn`t test MX7000 with BL5.

    I`m quite sure, they didn´t test it with an old AV9000 - but it works.

    Re: Beolab 5 cannot work properly with MX7000....

    UPDATE - problem seems solved but in a strange way.

    a) removing the antenna's did not work, nor changing cables.

    b) I got a "second life" Beosound 3000 (thanks Gert-Jan!!) and replaced my 2300 with that, moving the 2300 to the bedroom. Reconnecting the Beolab 5 to 3000 and BL3's to MX7000 and "AUX"-ing the 3000 with 7000 still yielded the clicks again - after a minute or so where I thought the problem was solved.

    c) I disconnected the BL3's from the MX7000 and -as before- all was fine. Even when using A-TAPE to listen to the TV sound over the BL5's.

    And that got me thinking: let's try AV-CD as well. Again no problem: sound from both TV-speaker and BL5  with individual control via "CD" resp. "AV-CD", without any clicks.

    Only difference with the day before was that the BL3's were connected to the MX7000 as well. So the clicks came from connecting the BL3's...????? (ok, not the first major problem: connecting BL5 to MX7000 and nothing else gave the HUGE clicks which led us to never want to connect the BL5 again to MX7000).

    So maybe one of the PL sockets of the MX7000 is "a bit fauilty", but not to extend that I was bothering the original BL8000's.

    So I tried the following and that now solved the problem: I connected the BL3's using the PL splitter and connect both BL3's to one PL socket of the MX... SOLVED. (before you ask: I did not try putting the splitter in the other PL socket of the MX. Too happy it works now!).

    so, partly thanks to Gert-Jan, I don't need a BeoVision 7 (or other "new" BV) -- sorry GJ. Well not as soon as this week :-) because MX7000 is an old animal of course.

    So I'm happy, but does my explanation make sense i.e. a MX7000 PL socket being the problem? (and this was perhaps too the cause the original big problem of connecting the BL5's directly to MX7000 where this "faulty?" socket was used too. (but again, BL8000's worked fine on that).
