    Beocord 5000 tray problem [solved]

    Hello everyone,

I have bought a Beocord 5000 and everything works (the pinch roller is glazed though) but the drawer is very stiff and the motor has difficulty to make it move by itself.

The belt is not the problem (it's new) and you can clearly hear the motor not being happy at all!

Any thoughts? I know many of you have this model!

    Thank you.

    Jacques

    Re: Boecord 5000 tray problem

Well it seems that the drawer mechanism is very sensitive to placement... On an irregular surface, or a slightly bent shelf the base plate will be askew and this partially blocks the mechanism on my example.

    I guess something is wrong.

The tape transport was "serviced" with new belts at some point.

It was also literally spread with some sticky silicone grease, which seems like a bad idea.  Angry

The rubber on the two spools was dry and hard, and the pinch roller glazed. I will need a new pinch roller, but I had proper tyres in my box of tricks.

All functions work after a few new caps and solders—there were a few dry joints. Recording works fine, but everything will be properly aligned when I have time (especially the bias and level settings as always).

Any more bits of advice from fellow Beocord 5000 owners?

    Thanks!

    Jacques

There is a big gear wheel under the drawer. The grease becomes very sticky on the axle of this wheel. Clean it and it will work again ;)

    Thanks.

    This I have already done!

And why does the motor continues spinning after the drawer has reaches its end stops?

Because there are no end switches! The motor control only has a timeout, just like the doors in BC9000 and descendants.

You'll need to clean and relube the rails as well (and any related wheels/rollers, I can't remember if there were any). The tray needs to move easily (without the motor connected), the system really can't take much extra friction.

Is there any way of setting this timeout then? Or is it processor controlled?

    Re: Boecord 5000 tray problem

    Hi,

Pre-recordeds sound very dull, as well as cassettes recorded on my Nak.

Azimuth is spot-on and I can't see any further playback adjustments. The head has been degaussed. Any ideas?

Would anyone have a spare pinch roller assembly in good condition?

I'm also looking for the brake slider (part 22046 "arm") which is broken on the right.

Many thanks for your help, Die Bogener and Mika.

Not sure whether you've cleaned the heads.  Use a Q-Tip dampened with rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol or one of the commercial wet-type (e.g. Maxell, Discwasher) cleaning cassettes.

Thanks. Yes, the heads have been cleaned with isopropyl alcohol.

Do they stay lit in standby ?

The motor action, timing, sound etc. is normal.

    Thank you Martin.

No, no, only the standby dot is lit!

I'm glad that the drawer has recovered normal operation, thanks for confirming it!

    Re: Boecord 5000 tray problem

    Update.

After re-adjusting everything, lubricating the transport, I can say I am thrilled.

It is every bit as good as my Beocord 9000, which comes as a surprise... Or not! I didn't want to believe it, but it does! Even Dolby C works perfectly.

The cassettes are compatible with ALL my other decks.

And that's before the new pinch roller!

Only pre-recordeds still play much better on the Nak (it does have treble lift!).
