    Earset 3i : placebo effect?

I've just got an Earset 3i "press sample" at home... The test has started, and... To me it's clear that the sound is globally improved compared to my old good A8's, the main improvement being more bass...

So, has anyone been able to try the Earset 3i and came to the same conclusion, or is it just because there is no foam on my A8? (I will add foams and try again, but I can't believe it's only foam as I already tested the A8 with and without foams and saw that there was no real difference)

Maybe it's only a placebo effect, part of the beovirus (the effect making that every new product has to land at home because it improves something) ;-)

Re: Earset 3i : placebo effect?

Certainly my Earset 3 had better bass than my A8s so I don't think it's a placebo. Unfortunately though, I emailed B&O to ask if the 3i has better cable material that doesn't turn brittle and stiff after a few months. Sadly, they said the cables were made from the same stuff.

I'm not sure if this is of interest, but I have both the Earset 3 and 3i. Doing a comparison, the new 3i sound softer so needs a higher volume level to equal the 3. But it is much more convenient and the cables are also thicker and seem more robust.

Yes, the cables look a bit thicker (but marginally). It seems that B&O has made some efforts to improve this product.

Good to hear that the cables have indeed been changed. I wonder why B&O told me that they were the same as the Earset 3? Still, I'm not complaining.

Maybe because it's still a very basic black plastic cable... Or maybe because they have no idea of the fact that their Chinese factory has changed the product without noticing anything! ;-)

    What's the price of these?

I love my A8's, but the bass is a bit poor.

$199 according to http://www.shopbangolufsen.com. No idea how that equates to GBP or EUR pricing.

And are they available yet? I'm sure I asked recently and they weren't on-sale?

Compared mine last night and they seemed pretty much the same - both cable thickness and sound. My A8s are recent ones though.

I think that the update doesn't only impact the Earset 3i, and there was a "silent update" of everything with that kind of design (i.e. All earsets and A8's)

Re: Earset 3i : placebo effect?

I've just bought a pair (at lunch). My local dealer only had 3 pairs in stock and they'd only recently arrived!

£180 in the UK. Expensive. How does that equate to $199? :)

Not opened them yet, but I'll compare later.

Replying to myself. The finish on the 3i's is inferior compared to my A8's. Shiny (almost sticky in touch) rubber, compared to the matt finish on the A8's.

The instructions don't tell you where the microphone is located! Anyone know?

I don't know but I would have though that the microphone hole is in the same place as on other iPhone headsets - on the other side of the remote unit

Re: Earset 3i : placebo effect?

A quick question moxxey - does the Earset 3i have that annoying 'round the back of the neck' arrangement for the wires (as on the earset 3) or do they just hang down equally from each ear? Thanks

They hang down from each ear. It's the same design as the A8s. The 3i image on the B&O website is different from the actual headset design!

Not really had chance to use them properly. Had a quick blast this morning, but not taken a call through them yet.

They should have used Ultimate Ears look a like wires... Those wires are replaceble without buying a whole new earset. That would be a great update and I think everybody will love that.

Re: Earset 3i : placebo effect?

I got a pair today and they're definitely a bit bassier than even my Earset 3, which in turn were bassier than my rather ancient A8s.

    Very happy!
