Hi Guys,

I've just picked up a Beocenter 9000 and whilst I am generally pleased, there's a niggling problem. The touch button for the Vol+ doesnt work, but the >> does light up. The glass panel is loose so I know I will have to re-attach that to the plastic frame but I don't want to do that just yet until it is working properly.

Not being able to use this button also hampers the settings for loudness, balance, bass and treble. I've looked under the glass panel but cannot see anything obvious. I did read somewhere that when re-attaching the panel to its frame that I should leave the old "double sided tape" there and just glue it back carefully, is there any reason for this or shold the old tape be removed first.

The only other thing I can find wrong with it is that when the Radio function is selected, the radio station "selected" number on the top display doesn't show the number 9. This does however light up ok when a cd is inserted. I can live with that if I have to, but this volume control issue I can't live with.

I do have a beolink 1000 remote on its way to me which hopefully allow use of the Vol+, but I dont really want to have to rely on this.

Sorry for such a long post but I would be really grateful if someone could point me in the right direction

The vol+ key probably does not work because the glass is loose and not making good enough contact with the rubber underneath. This is not unusual.

I suggest that you remove glass and the plastic frames (remove screw under left end of Beocenter) and re-attatch using one of the prescribed methods. Do this to the keyboard and the display as they will both need doing.

I have been re-sticking these for years using industrial grade contact adhesive and have never had a complaint or a failure. Others insist on using double sided tape.

The fault with the 9 led will need more thinking about!

I reckon you will be fine when the glass panel is reattched. Have you tried touching the rubber prong under the glass to see if this then works the volume?

Also the no.9 on the radio will be that the preset on 9 has been deleted, nothing else. If you add a preset onto 9 I expect it will light up again.

Looks like it. If all the other controls work and the prong itself seems fine (I believe it is some kind of conductive rubber), there is very little that can be at fault, though - probably the transistor (BF240) connected to that particular prong, or perhaps a bad solder joint or some debris creating a short on the circuit board close to the prong.

Do you have any electronics experience? If you think you know what you are doing, you could try shorting the C and E of that particular transistor, the function should then respond and confirm the problem... If you don't understand what that meant, don't try it

Yes I've just tried as you suggested shorting C and E of that transistor and the function responded . I removed the board but there's nothing obvious to me. Luckily graham has offered a replacement board so hopefully I should be sorted

I've seen mention of the use of double-sided tape before, but surely this tape is non conductive and therefore cannot conduct from the finger on the glass to the button below?

Or is there conductive double-sided tape that will do this?

We're only sticking the glass back onto the plastic frame that holds it in place. The frame complete with glass is then held in place with 1 screw underneath the left hand corner. So the tape doesn't need to be conductive, it is only holding the glass.

Thought I could use this method to tackle a problem whereby touching a couple of points on the glass of my Beomaster 4500 would make better contact with the buttons below than currently is the case. Tried silver paper which works ok, but not very elegent nor a totally efficient solution.

Anyone got better ideas please?

I believe that this is the tape that is recommended by some.

Personally I think it is too thick and makes the glass panel stand up too far ............hey ho! Each to his own.

I use industrial grade superglue on 4500 glass panels as well. I dare say the above tape would work on those as well but I have not used it for that application.

Either way, the glass has to be a secure fit in the plastic frames or the touch controls just will not work.

It's my intention to keep the 9000 going beyond my days, I'm an old bloke now (well 50 anyway), and it's only now I'm getting into B&O, always loved it, never had enough money. It seems that everyone who's into B&O are all great people, helpful and generous.

I found some double sided foam tape which is 1mm thick, do you reckon it will be OK for the glass panel.

That tape could be just the job. If it sticks like sh1t to a blanket, you could be in business.

However, now comes the mucky, time consuming bit. You have to clean all the existing gunk out of the plastic channels and from the glass without any scratches!

I just thought it would be a shame to consign it to the bin if repairable, and I could return along with the other project....

To be honest Olly, I'm glad to get rid of one. If it 's gone to some use, rather than the skip, then so much the better.

I won't have room for a lot of this stuff now we have made the decision to downsize.
