New BC3500 - no sound from one channel and 3 bulbs blown

    Hi all

Picked up a BC3500 yesterday.  It's in lovely cosmetic condition (including the preset cover) but has a couple of issues.  There's no sound from one channel on either speaker 1 or speaker 2 outputs.  Also plugged in headphones and is only coming out of one headphone.  Everything else seems to work fine, tunes in OK, controls aren't scratchy and the sound from the one working output is fine.  The power bulb, the stereo bulb and the tuning meter bulbs have all blown though.

So, I need some advice!  I'm a complete novice with anything electronic but reasonable with more mechanical challenges and can wield a soldering iron, plus I'm keen to learn!  Are any of the possible causes of the missing channel going to be addressable by a beginner?   How about the bulbs?

    Many thanks in advance

    Simon

Hi Simon, congrats on your new piece!

Without a doubt, you should change out all of the electrolytic capacitors. If you are good with a soldering iron, you should have no problem doing this. Speaking of capacitors, have a look at your power caps, they are parked right up against the metal transformer "lunchbox" and see if they are leaking or not.

Also check the trim potentiometers and replace accordingly. This job also within reach of a beginner.

Bulbs are available from member Dillen (Martin).

    Good luck!

    Evan
