BS3000 and BeoCom 6000 help needed! Thunderstorm damage?!

Today we had a thunderstorm, the electricity was off but everything was still plugged into wall sockets. The house does have a surge protector. Not 100% sure, but the house may have got hit by a bolt of lightning. Some items are working (BS1 and most other electrical items) but now we're having a few problems with other stuff.

The BS3000 has a red standby and green light beside it, but the doors aren't responding, and it isnt switching on via remote. I've tried unplugging and plugging back in to no avail. Any ideas?

Also, we have 4 BeoCom 6000's. It is possible to ring internal and get a ring, but when a call comes in from outside the phone doesnt ring, or have any sign that a call is incoming, but you can answer it and talk?! I've had everything (all phones and bases, and the master black base thing) switched off and disconnected for 10 mins and then reconnected but no luck.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Rob.

Re: BS3000 and BeoCom 6000 help needed! Thunderstorm damage?!

    Hi Rob

Our house was hit by lightning on Good Friday. We were watching a DVD (non B&O) on the Avant. Instantly the Avant and Sky box which was in stand by blew. Also took out my daughters LCD TV in her bedroom and my BeoSound3000.

Initially I thought that the stereo was ok as all functions operated normally bar one - no sound!

The BeoCom6000 and base were ok but the video deck in the Avant (and link module) were fried.

We hardly ever use the video deck these days so I am living without it but the BeoSound3000 had to go in for fairly major surgery I'm afraid.

We don't kn ow exactly where the strike hit but around8 neighbours also suffered blown TV's, cable boxes and phone lines.

Hi Robert,  after a lightening hit the usual things to go are answering machines , cordless phones and modems. A surge protecter on your mains electricity will not cover your phone as the phone line enters your house separately.

The first thing to do is try another phone(disconnect all your extensions) in the main telephone socket and establish if its a line or equipment problem.

If it is your equipment, all of the phones and beoline have transformers and these are worth checking.

Thanks for the replies, we established last night that it was a line problem, and BT have sorted that out today, so telephones are operational.

Still no luck with the BS3000, tried disconnecting and reconnecting today but no luck, still a red standby and green light side by side with no movement of the doors, or action from remote. Time to phone B&O Belfast and get help there?

The red and green light on simultaneously probably means you have the timer set.  I'd try cancelling this - you can access the user manual online here if you don't already have it.  The doors should slide open easily manually - don't force them if they don't.

Not able to slide the doors open, and apprehensive about going too hard with them! If it is a timer set, I don't know how I could get it turned off with the remote seemingly not working, and not being able to access the buttons behind the glass doors. I didnt have a timer set before the lightning strike, so is it possible a surge has just fried something internally, or would the BS3000 appear dead in that instance rather than having lights on?

I suspect that the 3000 is fried as there is no timer function that would prevent the door from opening.

There is a service code Shift 90369 on the remote to lock the doors, shift 90369 again to unlock.

To access the buttons you could take the glass doors off by pulling them towards you at the outside edges.

    Regards Graham

No life with the service codes, if it's fried, which its increasingly looking like, will it be repairable by my dealer? Also, with no way of checking the BL6000's connected to it, are they likely to be goosed aswell?

The BL 6000 you can check with a computer or Ipod with a line cable

Beosound 3000, BL 4000, BL 8000, BG 2404,BG 5000, BG CD50, Beocord 5000, BM 901, BM 2400, BM 4000, BV S45, BV 3702. There is nothing we cannot do, but a lot of things we don't want to do!!

Both speakers are working fine, checked this morning with an iPod. Since one speaker and the CD player are pugged into the same socket, I am now concluding the CD player has gotten a surge down the aerial cable. This would explain how the lights are still on at the front I think. I wonder what damage a surge into the aerial socket on the BS3000 would actually do though?
