    Speaker Dilema!

Hi, I have an Avant 32, DVD1, BS3000 connected to an iPod and Beogram TX turntable. Currently the speakers are Beolab 4000's connected to the avant.

The problem is I find the sound when listening to music lacks in oomph, it's clear but as not as clear as warm and big as when I had my S75's hooked up through an MCLP amplifier.

So I am thinking of either selling the lab 4's in order to get some Penta's or keeping the lab 4's and adding some Beolab 6000's. My question is has anybody got any of these setups and what do think. Which is going to give me the better sound with music. Will the 4000's and the 6000's in speaker 4 mode sound as good as the Penta's?. I'm not that bothered about surround sound really and I live in a flat with wooden floors so can't really blast the music - and this is my dilema

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I think I can speak for most people -I'd take 4000's over 6000's! How about adding a BL11 and call it a day?

I have an Avant with Pentas as fronts, 4000s as rears and a Beolab 2. The Pentas will sound better than S75s (had those too) - very warm sound - some will decry them for being a little veiled as they are not as bright as, say, 8000s. I like the sound, Pentas are relatively cheap and they go very loud! You may get a thump when you turn them on with the Avant though - this is all to do with timing of the mute circuit - I no longer notice it. I think Pentas are quite fantastic speakers and would have them over almost all of the present range.

Thanks Peter - that's my mind made up - Penta's it is - one more thing, will I notice much difference if I go for passive ones run through the MCLP and use the 4000's as rears or am I better selling off the 4000's and getting MKII or III's? I might keep the 4000's anyway for my kitchen but just wondered if I don't need that much volume (well loud enough but not so loud it disturbs everyone) if there would be much difference apart from having the display?

Ever since I heard the Beovox Pentas at a friends I have been hooked!
