    Thanks Evan!

BRW, they arrived today!!!! And they are perfect! Just checked the drivers, and they look brand new almost, so maybe they have been replaced?

Really nice, only problem I have is that I'll have to order custom wall brackets for them from a welder... So that'll add a few hundred I guess, since they are heavier than I expected, and I'm not comfortable putting them on a drywall with 3cm of stone glued to the wall, the screws would be acting like a lever.

But hey, with a little luck I'll have them installed in a few days! Yes - thumbs up

I have had 3 pairs of 5000's hanging on drywall for years, no problem.

I use Rawlplug Interset cavity fixings with standard brackets.

You think it's going to be alright?

How many screws do you have into the wall?

The problem I have (maybe) is that the drywall has stone glued onto it. The stone is perhaps 3-4 cm thick, so the bolts or screws would be longer than usual, and sort of act like a cantilever...

Another problem I have it that I'll need to drill holes trough the slate stone that is glued onto the wall, risking breaking it.

So what I'm thinking of is to order a large "L" bracket.

    5 screws in each bracket.

They are not really brackets, more accurate to describe as mounting plates which are flat on the wall.

The weight is taken straight down the surface of the wall. There is virtually no outward strain at all.

I am convinced that no major engineering solution is required.

Let's see, thinking back, in their most recent position, my 5000s have been hanging on standard 1/2 inch thick drywall for a year now with only 3 anchors per speaker. They are very sturdy.

Previously, my 5000s were hanging on 1/2 inch drywall with 5 plain drywall screws per speaker - also very sturdy.

You should be fine with any of the above Andreas.

Make sure that your custom bracket holds the speaker against the wall and not away from it, you will get much better performance. Doesn't STB manufacture reproductions?

There's a danger that the people sitting at those seats will catch the cloth or dent the stainless steel panels...

Also, conversation might be a little difficult with a massive speaker in your left ear!!Surprise

Maybe they need to be a little higher??

    Re: Beolab 5000 speakers

They look great but if they are in a public area I wouldn't have them anywhere near where they can be touched.

I have a friend who owns a restaurant and he is constantly amazed how things he thought were 'public proof' get damaged.

If the picture shows where they are to be installed permanently they will be damaged. They will have dents, food stains and holes within days. I can picture someone putting a jacket over them to muffle the sound so they can talk.

People don't intentionally damage things (mostly) but I think these need to mounted well up and out of the way.

Once installed you'll love them; I'm still glad I purchased mine.

Well, what is even worse: people will fall over the cables...

    Big Smile

As I see it, it was just a test of where to put the speakers (they are ON the chairs...).

I am sure, Andreas will hang them WAY higher.

    Right on! Laughing

That was just a fast pic, when we tested them last night. They will be hung so that the top of the speaker will be inline with the top of the painting. I don't think they will get damaged, I had my Beolab5's at the very same spot for over a month last year, nothing happened.

The sound reproduction is way over my expectations! They are very good. I'm so glad I bought them.

I don't think they have been replaced -they are just very good drivers with rubber edges - instead of those terrible foam rings they used in the CX-series and the late S-series (s-45, s-55, s-80 etc.).
The drivers in my 5000's still looks like new -and so they do in my 3000's.

Congrats with your lovely speakers Smile

They are absolutely perfect, the pic is not the best possible, as it was dark outside already. The table is mostly for decorative purposes, no-one ever sits at it. Laughing Freerk and Nikola knows this.

Being Mondrian-inspired, they deserved to be spotlighted as much as the painting does (if not more so).
