Beogram CD 6500 how to remove transformer cover

I am trying to help an owner of a Beogram CD6500 with a repair through email.
We need to remove a cover that sits over the transformer.
I've never seen that cover before and the owner cannot figure out how to remove it.
Anyone seen this before and knows how to remove it ?

Mine has one, and I also saw one in a 7000 I fixed... never understood the purpose of a heavy solution like that. Took some time to figure it out.

Anyway, the plastic part has grooves inside the side walls that squeeze around the PCB on top of the transformer. It snaps in once it has slided in place towards the front of the deck, there are no screws or anything like that. To remove it, you need to spread the sides of the cover at the front and pull it back at the same time so the snap-in bumps (I'm lacking a word here) climb on the sides of the PCB... then it just pulls out.

Unfortunately it is rather hefty plastic and takes a little bit force, and there might have been a couple more of these erm.. snap-in bumps along the sides. Tell the owner to peek under the plastic, I seem to recall it was rather obvious once you know you need to slide it out towards the rear.

Not too easy to explain it seems Laughing And yes, there is no room to remove the tray pulley for belt replacement until this plastic part is out of the way...

There are holes in the back of the top cover where you can get your fingers in - The plactic part is there to protect your fingers from touching the transformer.

Wow, Martin -something You haven't seen before...Surprise Wink I've had 2 of these 6500's (well, I still have one) -and it was (is) on both of them. I thought it was on them all. As far as I remember - the 5500 had a metal grille to prevent fingers from getting in where they don't belong.

Yes. I've had my fingers in a large number of these decks and I never came
across one with that cover before.
And when it finally happened, I was in Copenhagen and the cover in New York...
Anyway, with a joined effort and help from Beoworld we got the cover off and everything is working again.

I learn from this forum too, you know.  Laughing
