TM – Companies have a tendency to say ‘well, this is a fantastic product – so let’s just leave it at that’.  However, I believe that the better designed a product is the more frequently you should update it.  Actually something like the BeoSound 9000 is still a really good product for us.  Every time we talk about taking it out of the range the dealers shout ‘No, you can’t do that!’

The power of the BeoSound 9000 was immense - appearing in Hollywood movies and in the press and this really moved the company forward, but I believe this product should have been updated every 2-3 years.  This doesn’t mean you should change it completely – but you should keep it ‘fresh’..

No one buys CD players any more. Even amazing ones.

I did not know the BC2 was gone as well.

But really, no-one buys CD player anymore. It becomes even more crucial that they figure out the BS5.

I know, I was just shocked.

I try to buy CDs as often as I can - always wanted a giant library of CDs. Call me old fashioned if you want, I just like for my things to be tangible.

Evan, I'm old fashioned, I have some 400 vinyl sinbles, some 150 vinyl LPs, I never got to like casette tapes, and I have some 300 CDs, started to get some blue rays also, I have 4 VHS players in the storage, I have 3 Cd/DVDs players in the house, and getting modern, 3 Ipods and some sound docks. From now on I will stay with vinyl and vintage, I'm tired of buying new items and, after a while, new software updates every month, staying up to date today is a waste of money. Buying vinyl, even remade, gets you good music, and not the downloaded 190 Kbs "quality", and it stays with you, no computer breakdowns will cancel your music.

I still buy CDs because I want lossless music on my Mac and Beosound 5.  After ripping, the CDs go into a box in storage.  CDs will probably be discontinued completely in probably less than 10 years....maybe sooner.

    Re: Beosound 9000 discontinued,,,,,

Soren, that sounds awesome. I have two iPods that I couldn't live without. I wake up to it on the dock in my BeoSystem then take it into the car and listen on my way to wherever and then use it with my headphones on foot. The convenience has really made the iPod easy to integrate into my habits. My last iPod is almost 6 years old and working fine, no need to keep up! Smile

I haven't been buying CDs long, and have a measley count of 40! Linder brings up the good point of ripping in lossless, which I do.

Can't say I'm surprised nor am I upset about it. It's a damn fine CD player, and I love mine, but I don't use it anymore... Only for the occasional background listening of radio and to control my Beolab5's being fed from my Mac Mini.

If it doesn't sell... Kill it I guess.

    Re: Beosound 9000 discontinued,,,,,

We had this information on Beoworld in April/May and it turned out not to be the case. I use my 9000 every day love it. I am with Soren on this.

But B&O needs to make what sells so what are they going to replace it with ?

I never made a conscious decision to stop using CDs. It just naturally happened after I got my BeoSound 5. I found that after awhile, I never used my BeoCenter 2 for CDs anymore. Eventually, I changed the settings to make the BeoSound 5 the audio master instead of the BeoCenter 2 so that I could have N.MUSIC on my BeoSound 5 respond to the CD button on the Beo4.

Same story for me, I now use my BeoCenter 2 as a link display for my BeoPort, fed by a Mac Mini in another room, I never even plugged the FM antenna and barely use the CD player..

I'll keep it with BeoPort until B&O comes out with a better version of its BeoSound 5 concept, or wait patiently for a true BeoPort for Mac , which is the ideal solution for me.

    Maybe it's a good time to buy a BS9000, though?Idea

    Re: Beosound 9000 discontinued,,,,,

My FLURS is currently (and has been for awhile) selling its stock of used CDs at $5 each.  Last week I bought Pink Floyd The Final Cut, Beach Boys Pet Sounds, Beck Odelay, and a few others.  Since scoring a CDX from Jeff/Jaff/burantek I've been listening more and more to my CDs (not that I've stopped listening to vinyl or my iPod).

Anyway, $5 each is a heckuva better deal than spending $40 on a used LP of Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here (which I did on the same visit).

    Current primary listening:  SMMC20EN -> BG4002 -> BM4000 -> Beovox M70

    Re: Beosound 9000 discontinued,,,,,

I picked up a used MK3 BS9000 9 months ago, as an upgrade from my BS5500 that I'd loved since1988.  I needed something that was N.MUSIC capable, oh, and a credible upgrade from what I had (so BS3200 and BS4 were out).  Anyway, I played CDs all day long until...  I picked up a used Beomedia 1.  But the Beomedia didn't work too well with my AVANT as I didn't have the IR sensor for the Beomeda (but it worked ok via link rooms and N.MUSIC etc, as normal).  But now, finally, I have also (for the digital switch over) replaced the AVANT with a BV10-40 which of course means I can now fully operate te Beomedia via ML data from the TV  (which the AVANT couldn't do).

So in the space of a year, I've gone from having access to1xCD (Beogram 5500), to 6 CD but really now that I've got access to 500CD strorage then I can't look back.  Only used the BS9000 for radio and th N.MUSIC   oh, and to just look at.  I've never really figured out why you still need an audio master to access N.MUSIC.  Why can't you just access digital files direct from Beomedia.  I mean, when I select N.MUSIC why does BS9000 still need to be in the loop if the Beomdia is Master Linked in its own wright.  Does Beosound 5 depend on another audio master being present, I doubt it does, since it includes power link outputs.  Though I like the 9000 I'd rather not have to keep it simply for the fact that it's critical to the setup.  Yes I know I can access Beomedia from my Link room TV via L-PC (or DTV2 as I have it set) but the sound is just the modulated (mono) via the RF distribution from the BV10.  The only way to get stereo is via N.MUSIC (but then the tv screen is blanked).   Is there some other configuration that could be used to have stereo sound and picture from Beomeda via a linked TV.

So I can see why the decision to drop BS9000 has now come... I would upgrade again to BS5 if it was worth it, i.e  drop the fancy head unit, that you have to get out of your seat to see / operate and just make BM5 on its own, but with a VERY GOOD gui that can be output to Beovisions  (Apple TV !)  The beosound 5 head unit is lovely by the way, but usless as it's neither a remote (unless you make it wireless ?????)  nor is it a worthy display (small screen)  smaller than my 40" TV at least.

    Re: Beosound 9000 discontinued,,,,,

I understand why B&O have done this, but what is worrying is that this leaves a lot of the B&O customers no option but to listen to MP3 through their systems (BeoSound 5 still doesn't support Apple Lossless).

MP3 is not proper sound - it's an insult to your ears. Anybody who spending more than a few hundred pounds on a sound system should not be listening to it. The way MP3 works to compress your music is quite horrific, and I can't believe it's become so widespread...

alenvprekrsku, your posts got caught in the automatic spam filter because it had too many
repeats of the same word, line or phrase. In this case, I think it was because "MP3" was mentioned
no less than 4 times in a very short message. To the filter that could look as spam.
The following tries were probably seen as double postings.

Thank god. The BC2 is a dog. The BS1 sounds awful. The 9000 is starting to look a bit tired in my opinion. Maybe these will force the company to start bringing some innovative, modern products to the market.

Official B&o-website has dropped beosound 3200 and BS1, Beosound 9000 and Beocenter 2 are still displayed.

If they will be removed from the site, not much is left, it is going to be very lonely for the Beosound 5... not a impressive product line under the "Audio" section.
