Well, it didn't exactly 'get away' - it just never made it to production.
During our tour of 'The Farm' at B&O HQ in Struer deep in the depths of the basement, we were shown some first and final prototypes & oddities which never made it to production. I was allowed to photograph the following item, which was produced in or around the early 00's and was destined to be a portable CD Player/Radio with a detachable Remote.
The 'slide out platter' was a brand new concept at the time and appeared in the familiar guise we all know today on the BeoVision 7.
Anyway - here you go!

Re: The one that got away..
I quite like that! I must say the remote part looks a little 'busy', but the system looks great with the remote detached.
Thanks for sharing Lee!

Re: The one that got away..
Beautiful piece, nice size, imagine it together with BL 4000.

Seeing this is a product-designer's dream! Did your guide give any mention to the name it would have had? Codename?

Re: The one that got away..
As mentioned -rather busy top! I do like it though!
Rather than BL4000 -I would like to see it next to some BL9. It looks like it may have been a spin-off of their design study (or viceversa).

Re: The one that got away..
Extremely cool and futuristic. I assume it could have run off batteries? Would have been a great complement to the Beosound 3!

Re: The one that got away..
It does look cool, but only the buttons arrangements on the remote says it's a B&O, I understand why it never made production.

Re: The one that got away..
I like the concept, but the overall look is not very B&O-ish, at least in my eyes.
