    Beolab 5 - Different Mk?

    Hi

Are there more than one version of the Beolab 5? If so, what are the differences between the versions?

Is it possible to se what version by looking at the serial number?

    Best regards Ola

There is only one version with different 4 digit type numbers for the different countries/region

The type numbers are from 6880 to 6890 inclusive plus 6898

I wondered about this also.  Since there is no MKII, has there been software updates?

I think yes, software updates that effect crossover points(?). It's been discussed before and I think there were some other details...

Whilst there is no Mark II, like most other software driven products, there are software updates.

The current software version is 3.20a and the following issues were apparently resolved since the product was first released:-

    • No sound when playing CD because of wrong selection of S/P-Dif
    • Periodical digital noise symptom in BeoLab 5 if connected to e.g. BeoSound 9000 via SPDIF and Power Link). The symptom could occur when playing back CD's with Copy Protection software.
    • Periodical digital noise symptom in BeoLab 5 if connected to BeoSound 9000 via SPDIF and Power Link). The symptom could occur when changing CD or when coming from source Radio or CD.
Periodical digital spike noise symptom in BeoLab 5 if connected to non-audio source
    • PIN Code functionality active from factory
    • Volume synchronisation cable supported for option 1 or 4 setup
    • Mute problem due to missing or early Power Link data from some products, BeoLab 5 may be muted after start-up (green LED and no sound) - volume up or down gives sound.
    • S/PDIF non-audio problem: Periodic digital noise in BeoLab 5 when changing between S/PDIF and Power Link/Line. Extra check on the S/PDIF data stream to determine if the data are audio or non-audio.
    • Improved ABC calibration
    • Improved Thermal protection

Last update of my BL5s also was 1.62a. This was for the chassis without PIN code protection. At the same time there was a sw 2.62a for the newer chassis with PIN code protection.

"The PIN code protection has been introduced from serial no.: 17xxxxxx." ...taken from beotech site: BL5 service profile.

I would also like to know if it`s  possible to update from 1.62a to 3.20a, although my BL5s are working great, sound awesome and have no issues at all......

Thank you all for the answers!

I am interested in a pair of used BL5.
On these, one of the speaker has 179xxxx as a serial number and the other has 188xxxx.

Could they been sold as a pair even if they have such "wide" serialnumbers? (179=04/05, 188=05/06

    /O

I am informed that 3.20a was made available to dealers last month, HOWEVER apparently it cannot be used on units currently running software 1.XX or 2.XX

Re: Beolab 5 - Different Mk?

Thank you for the list of changes to BL5. I can see Software 3.00a started in unit 2122114. Does anyone know the production date of this first unit with 3.00a?

Also if anyone can elaborate on the changes made from 19375256, that would be interesting. I have one BL5 below this serialnumber and one above!

    Thank you.
