    A Vintage Birthday Present.

    I have recently received a great birthday present from my parents. A Grand Prix 507K Radio. Needless to say I was delighted! It doesnt work at the moment, infact its totally dead but Im hoping that it can be coaxed back to life.

    I had hankered after a valve set and infact had recently bought one which Martin has done some work to and I am yet to actually get my hands on but I am more than happy to have two. I must admit to having no idea on the size of the Grand Prix 507K and it was quite a shock to see just how big it is. It dwarfs the little BM1000 in the picture.

    Anyway here are some pictures and I will keep you updated with its progress.

    That's one comprehensive scale! Makes one wonder how the (currently) old people could operate equipment of this complexity back then, when they now have problems with anything with more than one button... Smile

    Congratulations on both the radio & your birthday!

    Superb! One really careful owner indeed!

    And good luck about the repair (which I lack at the moment). Do keep us informed, and let us have a peek inside please!

    Its certainly not perfect, it does have some chips to the veneer etc  but then its 60 years old so its allowed to have imperfections. The dial is amazing, so many old stations and its not at all blurred like many dials of this age.

    A great present - congratulations.

    Reminds me of being a child and looking at the SW (remember what that stood for once upon a time?) dial and reading the names of mysterious exotic faraway cities (I was brought up the African countryside).

    I hope you spotted the station called "Beograd" :-)

    First B&O (1976) was a Beogram 1500 ... latest (2011) change has been to couple the BL11 with the BL6Ks *sounds superb*

    Congratulations - that is a beautiful piece (as is the BM1000).

    I keep telling my wife, er, The Fabric Selector, that any time her father is stumped about a gift for me, just give me the Victrola sitting in his dining room.  Devil

    Current primary listening:  SMMC20EN -> BG4002 -> BM4000 -> Beovox M70
