    CD problem with BC9500

I have problem with the CD on my BC9500.

Everything workes fine on the BC9500 (Tape, Phono, Radio, Aux) beside the CD. The prblem I have is, when I switch to CD it gives me some kind of noise/hum in the speakers and the cd starts to spin and after a while the BC9500 just turns it self off.

Anyone who knows what could be the problem?

thanx for your help, but not the same problem.

as soon as I switch to CD source (press CD on the BC9500) it gives me a hum/noise in the speakers and the cd starts to spin and then the whole BC9500 turns it self off. It doesn't matter if I have a record in the cd player or not.

    Re: CD problem with BC9500

The whole CD part comes from Philips (not only the mechanics) and from Philips I know of some problems with open solder joints on that pcb. I mean the pcb at the left side near the cd-mechanic (not under it). Important are the grounding joints, even if they seem to be in good condition. Remove old solder and resolder on both sides anyway. Don't forget to look after the "usual" dry joints (connectors, regulator-ic, ...).

    could C2396 causing the problem?

seems like one of the legs for it is broken

Well it definitely was not designed to have a broken leg Smile

It might not be the only problem, but start there. The power supply of the CD section will be very unstable with that filter cap missing.

it was the C2396, I just fixed the leg and now the cd player is working like a charm :-)

You really need to establish why this capacitor has lost its leg or footing. Could simply be a dry joint, but if it has broken you need to check that the capacitor ends are not bulging, as this is a sure sign of failure!

it wasn't broken, it was the soldering that was poor and that made that the leg was lose and I thought it was broken.
