Speaker choice ? An old topic I found from (very) old forum...
I found that document in old papers.
It's quiet interesting even if it's not up to date.
I like the 8000's being dated in 2000...

A good read. But I much prefer the older Beovoxes to either the 6000's or 8000's. Give me some s120's any day (except for the looks, people just love shiny towers!)

Oh yes - many years ago I did own a Beomaster 6000 together with Beovox MC 120.2. This was a good match and the speakers did play as a dream for many years. Later on came Beolab Penta (3) and now it is Beolab 9.
But sometimes I miss the "old sound"!

Hello,
I think that the best is to search for speakers that were designed during the period that you prefer in terms of Music. For me it is the 80's, and I find that the speakers of this period give me the "best" experience. I am actually no fan of the newer speakers, although I am sure that they have a technically better sound.
Of course I wonder what people who like Mozart should buy, if they used my formula
Be seing you
François

This shows why we always suggest listening for oneself. What one person likes may not be your taste at all. I don't like 6000s much - I find then lacking in bass and lightweight - he finds then clear and detailed. Probably the same sound but interpreted in different ways!
I agree about good passive speakers - I prefer units with a big bass driver - they seem to give more detail in the bass. However active speakers are clearly the way to go for accuracy. Still not heard a speaker as good as a Beolab 5.

Re: Speaker choice ? An old topic I found from (very) old forum...
Actually this is from Beolist, an email based forum, which still exists as a Yahoo forum, though unfortunately with almost no traffic. I am not sure why it stopped - a lot of the original members of Beoworld were also members of BeoList. Some of the features were difficult to update - I couldn't add to my collection list for instance.
There have been a number of B&O forums - BeoList and the B&O Message board spring to mind. The latter was the first forum I came across but was plagued with pop ups. Still exists - again, no traffic! B&O have now tried twice - I don't think they could cope with the negative threads.
