Beoport sound weaker than direct input?

    Hi,

I have a Beoport and face an issue, that the sound through Beoport is much weaker than from sources directly connected to my Beovision 8-40 (Apple TV 2 via HDMI) or 8-32 (ATV1 with sound through SCART Input). Also other sources in the ML network sound well (Radio, CD, A-Mem from my BS3200).

The Beoport is connected to an iMac (2010) or alternatively tested with an iPod Touch and also by using a DAC magic. Same outcome. On the Beoport I also have a pair of BL6000 connected on the Powerlink sockets -> they sound very well. I run Linkplayer as well as BM-Link (no difference).

What is wrong? Or is it a common problem of Beoport?

    Thanks for your thoughts!

    Heribert

Re: Beoport sound weaker than direct input?

I think there are always some inconsistencies between the levels of different sources.

II was playing around with my BeoPort yesterday, and found that I had to drop the volume output of my Apple from about 9/10ths to 7/10ths to get rid of some distortion on one song.

But just in case, double check you have the stereo jack from your Apples to the right spot on the BeoPort, you need to plug to the back (not the headphone port at the front), and be plugged into the spot closets to the ML port (not to be confused with the spot that is usually covered by a black sticker and supposedly "reserved for future use")

First B&O (1976) was a Beogram 1500 ... latest (2011) change has been to couple the BL11 with the BL6Ks *sounds superb*

    Hi Elephant,

the connections are all set properly. But the reduction of iTunes volume output seems to have some impact on BV8-32. It looks this has a weaker sound processor than the BV8-40 and cannot work with the full level output...

    Thanks for the hint.

Re: Beoport sound weaker than direct input?

I did some further tests and got a Beoport and a different system-module (without DVB-T) from my dealer. The Beoport did not change anything.

When I put the new system module into the BV8-32 the sound was better and there were no distortions anymore that I had before (setting iTunes to full power) I could even activate the equalizer (linear with higher pre-amp) and it was still good sound.

So my system module (with DVB-T) is the problem. The dealer ordered me a new one. Let´s see if it is better or if the DVB-T version is simply weaker than the normal version...

Thanks for continuing the feedback !

That is a very interesting series of test and observations.

I would be fascinated to see the results you get ... might lead me to question my own DVB-T !

Have you any experience with speaker crackle when you use a PC source through to a BV8-32 ? I find that if the screen image has any significant white space I get crackle every two or three minutes ... this is one reason I use Philippe's LinkPlayer - its black media centre B&O themed screen eliminates the crackle !!

    Hi Elephant,

I have connected an Apple TV 1st Gen via Component Video and Scart Audio. Further a Technisat DVB-S2 Receiver via HDMI. No PC Source. But also no crackles.

I face another strange Problem when watching Apple TV (Beo4 Command DVD) sometimes the BV8-32 switches to V.AUX (Technisat Receiver) automatically. No Change on Beo4 Display (have a special Version with V.Aux instead of DTV and DTV instead of TV).

Unfortunately it is not reproducable and after 1-3 "jumps" it remains on DVD... Seems it is not the worst thing that B&O eliminates the BV8-32 from its line.

I have never experienced anything like that !

I would try a test of hiding the Beo4 so its IR signal could not escape to verify whether it is the BV8-32 or whether it might be the Beo4

Re: Beoport sound weaker than direct input?

Already tried this. It is definitely the BV8. My dealer thinks it might come from scart signal of Techbisat receiver. Now I try to find out if this is valid. Strange behaviour anyhow.

Re: Beoport sound weaker than direct input?

I did a new test series to identify the "switching" problem. It is definitely comming from the Technisat. Usually it is switched off when I start the Apple TV. If I manually power it on (not with BEO4) it changes the BV8 to V.Aux. If I switch it off again it goes back to DVD...

Can it be that this is just, because it is V.Aux? Is there any priorization among the different video sources (like: TV-DTV-V.AUX-DVD)?

Well, I never expected anyone else to suffer through this.

I have a crackle very similar to what you describe on our BL 2000 in the bathroom.

This crackle does not occur on our BS 3000 + BL 6000 nor on our BL 3500, even while all are simultaneously playing from the BeoPort.

This crackle also does not occur if any sources other than the BeoPort are playing. For instance, take MP3 song "a" which crackles on the BL 2000 only.  Play the very same "a" MP3 file system-wide on the Master Link from an iPhone connected to AUX-IN on the BS 3000, no crackle.  Play the radio, or a CD, no crackle.

I will try with the black-screen only, as you suggest, and see what happens.

    Cheers,
