    cds do then, they dont

Beocentre 2300 plays like a dream, but but but! i have a few cd's (original) will not work, the laser scans for what i can only guess is a biting point to start playing but then gives up. the cd's will work through my DVD1 without a problem. any idea what it may be?

It's either dirt on the laser itself - or more likely given the age of the unit, a failing Laser needing replacement.

thanks lee, the cd's are "the mix" by kraftwerk, "powerslave" by iron maiden and one other i couldnt mention for fear of a slating from members. its only ever been these three and no others, i had bang and olufsen of willen (mk) reset the doors (my fault) and i asked them to check the laser and all was fine (last year).

ive had the unit and cd's since 2004/05 about the same time i purchased the beolab  8000's from you. which are stillgoing strong. thanks for that. could it just be conflicting data on discs?? but i must add if i press randomly a track number button on the unit i can sometimes get them to work.

btw its klaus naomi the secret disc.... yeah exactly....

does this happen cold starting the unit ie from standby or after the unit has been on for some time?

i have an ouverturewhich on occaision will not play from cold start but if the radio has played for a short while the cd(s) will then play a member suggested gentle cleaning of the gear , thought it was hard/dried out grease - this 95% solved the problem but it still happens off and on - think it may be a slight cd production problem, have you tried copying the disc if so what happens with the copy?

    salut

hi, thanks for your reply, the cd's were new, i went to play them on the unit and they didnt play. i do feel that its the cd's. what i must do in hindsight, is buy another cheaper versions of them from amazon and then try them. see what happens.

i could do but that wont solve the problem or help me find out why. also i have the dvd1 masterlinked to all my kit so i just put the cd's on that.

come on, it might highlight the cd as problematic or confirm the problem on the machine!

    there you go then!

had a similar problem with some classical cd's some years ago, copying em on the pc solved the problem

possibly temperature differences in the room change the tolerances of the pickup on the cd - just a thought
