    Upgrade to Beo6 from Beo5

    Hi @ all,

I thought that I inform you that you can switch your Beo5 to a Beo6 by changing the Display. I found it easy to do myself and I did it because I broke the bl.. thing again as the Beo5 has not a good standing ability. However normally the Aluminium body needs changing as well which I did but looking at it if you have some tool one could widen the slot by sanding some alu of. At least worth a try and if it does not work order the body for the Beo6.

    Best regards Oliver

Re: Upgrade to Beo6 from Beo5

Changing the display would only work  if the mainboard of the beo5/6 is in the screen, and to my knowledge it's not the case (correct me if I'm wrong, I've not unmounted a Beo5 yet), otherwise :

-I can't see how the display could be fed with the correct signal, i.e. the 3 buttons at the bottom are "physical" sensitive buttons on the Beo5, and are replaced by icons on the Beo6. How could you program the Beo5 to display those buttons?
    -You won't have wifi
-When connecting to a PC, the Config Tool will still see the Beo5 as a Beo5, not a Beo6 (hardware and firmware are a lot different between Beo5 and Beo6.

So please explain that a little bit more... Wink If the mainboard is in the display, it would work, but that would also mean that the Beo6 display part is really expensive... (if you know the list price of this part, tell us!)

The main board is in the display. The ball only houses the keypad and battery

    Wifi is still not there.

Well I paid for the ball and for the display a little below 200 Euro in total but I was told that it was special price due to some circumstances. I cannot say whther true or false. Ask your dealer for a price for both and if you are good in working on metal just order the display. Tell us what he says so we can get a better picture. For those who are able to do a self repair that maybe an option to upgrade. But I cannot say that I do prfer the new display. It is bigger and when you hold it it is hardly possile anymore to cover the whole area with your thumb. (I have big hands and could perfectly control with the thumb)

    Best regards Oliver
