    Beogram 3000 at the Used Record Store

    Today on my lunch hour I saw my first Beogram 3000 in the flesh at the local used record store.  It had an SP12 on it.  Noone at the store knew anything about it except, "It was here when I came in on Friday.  But I've been told a technician has gone over it and says it's fine."  They want $300 for it.

    A.  Reluctant to spend $300 without knowing its history.

    B.  Not sure if Soundsmith makes a suitable cartridge, or if anyone can refurbish the cartridge.

    C.  The dust cover wasn't secure.  Made me not want to touch it any more.

    So A + B + C = I passed on it.  Was I wrong?  It sure was a classic, beautiful piece.  I came home and looked at my RX-2's and said, "You girls know I love you, right?  But you're freaking ugly!"

    Current primary listening:  SMMC20EN -> BG4002 -> BM4000 -> Beovox M70

    A: Depending of the type 300 US could be a good price, but with SP12 it should be 72-75 type, and then its to much.

    B: I think SM makes SP 12 or other type that fits.

    C: You can touch if carefull

    ABC: Even ugly girls can bring something good, and if 72-75 not too much difference in look

    Far too expensive. Should be about $60 if in good condition. These are not uncommon and are hard to shift, at least in the UK. A 3000 Thorens would be a different matter!

    I figured as much.  Besides, I'm really after a tangential from the late 70's.

    Went to the used record store on lunch break today.  The BG3000 is now $250, AND A TECHNICS TABLE IS STACKED ON TOP OF IT.

    Heinous.

    I would wait till it has a JVC and Akai on top as well and is $50! It will be on the bottom because it is the heaviest! The lid can take it! I remember my dealer showing me how strong the 4000 lid was by standing on it!
