    Re: what is this ?

Could be a 2.1 system for used with a PC. Looks to have actual on/off buttons on the front.

    Re: what is this ?

I'm guessing it is just the working prototype unit.

That looks like some sort of prototype, possibly innards for prototype tv development?

Maybe is was accidentally uploaded by one of the web designers or something?

Yup. I remember seeing that back when.

Perhaps it's a prelude to an updated BL9 with digital inputs  (and hence the grab back in time to show the evolution)  Big Smile

    Oh, well, one can hope.

Indeed this was the original concept behind BeoLab 9, that was intended for recording studios & professional use as monitors.

And it was developed in concert with professionals.

That is not very B&O at all to my eyes, so would not like to see it on the consumer market, although would like to see something similar for a professional environment!

It was the prototype that was made and tested by professionals and recording studios before they built it all together in one box.

If you take a look at it, you will notice that there are only one ALT-lens. That's because all three of them just makes up one channel.

By having separate boxes for each unit makes is easier to develop. But don't worry, this won't be for consumers, it's a prototype and you'd need double that of the units in the picture, to have a stereo setup.

Re: what is this ? - new B&O speakers !

To clarify the explanations a little bit:

These were a prototype design that we (B&O mostly, Sausalito Audio a little) did in 2000-2001 as part of the general development of Acoustic Lens Technology.  They were visualized as "meter-bridge studio monitors", and designed to sit on top of consoles in recording studios.  The original system involves one small 2-way system (with the lens) and one modular "subwoofer" that ould be added if desired.  The photo showing two subwoofers is just for cool OMG looks.

We tested and auditioned these prototypes in studios throughout the US and Europe in 2001, and learned a great deal from that exercise.  Some engineers really loved them (we had trouble getting them back on occasion) and nobody seemed to dislike them.  There are some very interesting technical wrinkles in this design that make it very special, but which are still proprietary.  Suffice it to say that the hardware topology became the basis for the BeoLab 9, although its form factor is completely different.

    They are VERY cool loudspeakers.

    Thanks for listening.

Re: what is this ? - new B&O speakers !

I don't think it is two subwoofers per se even though they're the same size. The one to the left has a curved front, whereas the one to the right doesn't.

Or is just two different reiterations?
