tournedos:
After
the stuff has been demolished, there are folks all around shouting "why
didn't you offer it to me"...
Human nature.
I often get calls from exasperated customers who have made the decision to visit my website to reserve an item they've been pondering over for days, only to find it's already been reserved..
They come out with statements like 'is it really sold - because if not, i'll have it now' and 'you have no idea how much i wanted that item, please sell it to me and tell the other person it's sold already..' (which won't get anyone anywhere in my books)
So, i tell them that if the other customer drops out i'll call them. This always gets a 'oh, thank you - i so hope they do. My credit card is right in front of me and i want it now!'
Three days or so later, the person who reserved it has had a shock on the shipping quote or can't raise the money - so you call 'Mr X' who has been hopping up and down to buy it and now it's 'available' you get a nonchalant reply like 'oh great - err.. i'll have a chat with the wife and get back to you..'
I've never understood that one..
The best sign i ever read was in a car dealership's sales office.
"The car you looked at today and will decide to buy tomorrow
Is the car someone looked at yesterday - and will decide to buy today"
The owner of that business was a multi-millionaire by the way...
