    Centre speaker

Hi, What are you thoughts? I have been offered a pair of beolab 4000's for the right money.  Or I have a beolab 7.4 for nearly similar money!  I have a pair of penta labs for my front speakers?  I am swaying more towards the 7.4, Let me know your thoughts. Cheers Nick

I would get the 7.4.  If you can get it for similar money and you like the looks.  You will prob find some that say to pair the non-ALT speakers with like (e.g., BL4000) but I have BL8000s as front speakers and BL3 for center and it works great.

    Re: Centre speaker

I would imagine the 7.4 would be much more capable of keeping up with your Pentas. It has 2x250w ICEpower amps and ALT! Miles beyond 4000s. But, I am just going off of spec sheets and things I have read on here. I havne't had the oportunity to listen to either - at all.

    Have a listen!

I have gone for the 7.4 as its a dedicated speaker, also acoustic lense technology. Hope it works well with the pentas!  I am oicking it up at the weekend

Cheers Llewelyn! Do you think it will be better than if I had chosen a 7.1??  Cheers Nick

The 7.1 is a totally different speaker.  It's a stereo speaker, made to be a center speaker for some but not really meant for that.  It makes a great soundbar though, and a decent center.  The 7.4 makes a great center, and a crappy speaker for anything else!  Take your pick!

I am looking forward to hearing it!

    Re: Centre speaker

As long as it's intended use is as a centre, it will be great! 7.1s are great speakers, and more flexible than the 4 but the 7.4 is without question the better dedicated centre.

    The alt works a treat!
Also, in my humble opinion, it looks much better on the motor floor stand and does a better job of hiding any cables...
It might be a 'crappy speaker for anything else', but by the same token a Ferrari is a crappy car for shopping... It was designed purely to be an amazing centre and does a great job. I'm sure you'll be impressed Laughing
