    Beolit Speaker Replacement Mission.....

I'm on a mission to find a replacement that's currently in production... (got a bit of time on my hands at the moment.....)

Can someone please measure the dimensions (width, height and depth in millimetres) of the speaker in their 1970's Beolit.

Also can you measure the distance beween the center of the mounting holes

A good quality photo of one in and out of situ would also be appreciated.

(Mines currently at the other end of the country having been pronounced terminally ill)  Sad

    Cheers

    Nigel

Tim Jarman did quite a bit of work on developing a system to repair these. He said he could not find a quality alternative.

    Re: Beolit Speaker Replacement Mission.....

    Hi Peter

Mine is currently with Tim, but he's pronounced it beyond even his wizzardly powers of resurrection...

Hence my appeal for help.... I don't know what avenues Tim explored in terms of replacements - I'll give him a call tonight.

There's got to be something out there.....Unsure

    Cheers

Some dimensions -Hard to photograph but depth wise I'd say around 30-40mm max roughly.

    Hope this helps!

Long time ago i've written on this here (bw), i have them fixed in Thailand (Bangkok Chinatown, where they repair many things and hours are still cheap).

So: whatever you do, never throw away broken (usually stuck) speakers !

I have 1 or 2 repaired spares, i might sell and trade in a broken one (which i can have repaired again).

I could also have your's repaired but it needs time of course (sending back and forth and my friend has to go in and out of Chinatown....).

In any case: if people want to ge rid of broken ones: pls send them to me, of course i'll pay p&p.

Unfortunately i don't think there's any replacement, Vifa used to make these (found in Beolits as well) but mailing them didn't result in anything...

    Hi

I would be very interested in trading in my broken one for one of your repaired spares.

Could you let me know how much you would want to charge?

    Cheers

I have emailed SEAS and their UK disty re the drivers. I'm sure it will be to no avail but worth a shot.

I'll let you know how I get on. There may be scope for a group buy if anyone is interested?

If anyone has any pics of the actual drivers they would be appreciated!

    Re: Beolit Speaker Replacement Mission.....

A month on and I've made very little progress with this

As requested in my first post.....

Can someone please measure the dimensions (width, height and depth in millimetres) of the speaker in their 1970's Beolit.  Please

I also need to know the diameter and depth of the magnet

    Many thanks

    Nigel

    Re: Beolit Speaker Replacement Mission.....

Here you go Nigel. Sorry for the bad quality of my CAD program.

I'm not going to remove the speaker so I can't get an exact measurement on the depth, but the magnet is pretty much as deep as there is space for, so it definitely can't be more than 50 mm from the front bezel surface (not the mounting surface) to the rear of the magnet. The rear of the magnet sits flush with the AC power supply box.

EDIT: I think the depth will be one of the biggest problems when looking for a replacement, as the entire speaker is quite slim - still the speaker frame is almost touching the power supply box and the cooling plate at the edge of the PCB.

If the goal is to just get a dead Beolit to play, I would consider fabricating a plate to hold some generic (smaller) 4 ohm driver. Of course it probably wouldn't sound as good as the original.

EDIT^2: the depth of the magnet alone is ~20 mm.

    Re: Beolit Speaker Replacement Mission.....

Thanks to a very kind forum member it now looks I will be getting an original speaker.Big Smile

    http://forum.beoworld.org/forums/t/37950.aspx

I had identified 5 or 6 car speakers that may have fitted (see links below) but I'm sure none of them would have sounded as good as an original - these speakers are designed to take some fairly hefty car amplification - not the single watt of output that the beolits gave!

    Re: Beolit Speaker Replacement Mission.....

The search is now over due to an incredibly generous member - see the wanted section - here's a photo of what Peter from Denmark is sending me.

Llew - send me your address and I'll post the correct colour base plate for your 707 onto you! - you might like to drop Peter an email.

Can't tell you how happy I am and what a wonderful set of members this fantastic forum has!

    Cheers

    Fantastic stuff Nigel!

When it arrives, perhaps you could recommend me a best like-for-like speaker for me to get hold of - Mine is a rubbish fit and rattles around which bugs me!
