I realise that this is non-B&O related but, as many here have one and many others are Apple users I thought it would be of interest in terms of the estimated material and manufacturing costs of this and similar tech.

Thats actually less margin than I imagined!
I would like to get Apple TV at some point. I am currently using a Mac Mini as a media server but I prefer the interface of ATV, not to mention easy Internet Radio and Youtube browsing from the small remote.
This has probably already been discussed but can you stream from a Time Capsule on this device? Also, is there any scope for any On Demand plug-ins? Such as BBC iPlayer, 4OD etc etc?

Well, I like the idea of that kind of analyses.
Let us have a look at the costs as well as the consumer price. 30$ difference which is round about 30%.
Assuming the same for B&O I am going to produce high class super stylish video and audio solutions.

Uh! I don't get it. What's the point of knowing the manufacturing costs for an AppleTV? Marketing costs and software development costs are not included. The salaries for engineers in Cupertino California are significant. Apple is worth today about $335 billion USD. They should be able to do something like this. I understand the desire for B&O to add Apple compatibility but these comparisons mean nothing.
AppleTV though is brilliant.

No point exactly - it's just interesting to find out the material value of common tech/appliances! For instance, how much (in hardware terms) would it cost to add a wireless function to any device?
It might just be an "Engineer" thing
Typically the engineering development costs may not factor directly into the manufacturing cost of the device - included would be the material cost, manufacturing labour costs and overhead, together with the tooling costs (mould tools etc) amortised across a one, two or three year projected volume. Design and marketing costs typically will come from a different pot.

Cry.

Even if it would cost 150 dollars to make, Apple know the big bucks is getting it out to consumers, thus making more and more purchases go trough iTunes.
Sort of that VIP package from your local Video-rental.

I suppose. I personally have no use nor interest in this box as a whole, but it is still interesting to know what's inside of it.

I use mine as an access point to a big projector , and the content isn't limited to itunes , it's what ever you can put on your mac and stream wirelessly.
Ripped Dvd's via handbrake , elgato eyetv recordings , downloads etc
I'm very impressed by the little thing.
