Avant, BC9500 - no sound output when linked

    Hi all,

I have had a good search around the forum and could not find the answer I was after, so I apologise if I'm covering old ground but I just couldn't find it.

Anyways, I have my late Avant 32 DVD (with Surround module) hooked up to my BC9500 via a Beolink converter 1611 (both audio aux and fully wired powerlink are connected between the 9500 and converter) trying to play through a pair of Beolab 5000's. The speakers are hooked up to the Avant and work fine through the front speaker outputs. The Avant is set to 'option 2' and the 9500 'option 0'.

The problem comes when trying to play any 9500 source through the Avant. All appears to be well initially, the displays on the Avant show the source, the 9500 powers up and the source begins to play, the speakers power up and the displays show the source, volume etc but there is no sound output from either the Avant internal speaker or the 5000's. Connected separately both units play through their outputs without fault.

I have been through the setup numerous times and have powered the unit of then on again several times too. Am I missing something within the setup or could there be a converter fault?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Best regards

    Gregg

Re: Avant, BC9500 - no sound output when linked

The BC9500 needs to be in AOPT 6 as opposed to 0 ?  And is your 1611 Converter not connected with a MasterLink cable to the Avant?

I actually know a seasoned B&O chap (who will be able to help if needed) who lives about 600 yards from your front door too! (not me, but i've known him a long time)

    Hi Lee,

the 9500 seems not to accept an 'option 6', was this available on this model?

The Avant is indeed connected to the converter with Masterlink, I seemed to miss that bit out of my first post!?

    Cheers

Re: Avant, BC9500 - no sound output when linked

You could bring the converter and the 9500 down to Eastbourne - I'd be happy to test them all for you at LifeStyle AV (free of charge of course!).

    I'm sure it's nothing serious..

    Thanks Lee,

It would be very useful for someone to check my setup over, it's probably just my install! If your contact is able to have a look then that would be great (I don't mind paying!) failing that I may well pop down to you with them. That would be a great help for an amature like me!

    Thanks again.

I would have expected Option 2 and 0 to work if they are in the same room. 6 is really if the 9500 is in another room and would not allow control of the 9500 from the Avant. Have you run it through the B&O configuration guide for suggestions?

Have you tried with just the audio link connected/

Have had 2 systems in the past with a converter, but have always used just the a/l lead to the older kit1

Re: Avant, BC9500 - no sound output when linked

Thanks Doctor, I have tried to run the configuration guide but I seem not to have a compatible bit of software, what file type is it?

Tony, I have tried it with just the Aux link and still no luck. It seems odd that the displays are all functioning correctly and it is just the audio output thats missing, I'm still convinced it's my fault though!

Forgot to mention that I do have the 5000's set in video mode, connected to the avant etc....

    Thanks for all the help!

Re: Avant, BC9500 - no sound output when linked

    Hi Graham,

the speakers work great through the 9500 and the Avant separately but it is when they are masterlinked the problem occurs, no sound output from any 9500 source via the converter, the Avant powers them up fine. I'm thinking peraps a converter prob. The display data is fine, just the sound...

The 5000s are fantastic however! I just hope to get the setup sorted, then I can start integrating it into the room and hiding the cabling etc!

I've had this this setup several years from the early type of avant.

The right option setting is indeed (v)option 2 for the Avant and (Aopt) 0 for the 9500.

Make sure that you have the right cables. 8pins for the powerlink and 7 pins din audio cable for the Aux.

Don' t use the powerlinkcable for the Aux, as another member here on this forum does. The used wiring differs from the Aux audio and causes malfunction.

It is an EXE file - I cannot use it as I am on Mac but if you download it it as a pdf file, simply change the pdf ending to exe and it should work. There are a few cersions on the site - the oldest one is probably best for you!!

Re: Avant, BC9500 - no sound output when linked

Thanks everyone for the help. All things considered I'm leaning towards a link hardware problem, whether that be the Converter 1611 or cabling maybe. Time to test these bits I think.

I think I'll take up your offer of a test of my 9500 and converter at Lifestyle if I may Lee, when would be convenient?

i did have a faulty convertor at a customers once which caused pretty much the same issue as you describe.

try and borrow a convertor off someone to test.

I have tried to run the configuration guide

This is the result I got for you. The optiions seem correct but check the menu on the Avant, and make sure you have used the Audio Aux link on the converter, and not the powerlink.

Re: Avant, BC9500 - no sound output when linked

    1st STEP -  Option settings are A-OPT "0"  and V-OPT "2"

    2nd STEP - In addition to the 7-pin A.AUX / DATALINK CABLE
a FULLY MOUNTED 8-pin POWERLINK CABLE
might be necessary between BC 9500 and 1611 Converter.

3rd STEP - disconnect all units for several minutes from the mains.

4th STEP - ALL AUDIO/VIDEO PRODUCTS in the link system must be connected to the mains
BEFORE connecting the BeoLink Converter to the mains!

5th STEP - The BeoLink Converter HAS TO BE THE LAST TO BE CONNECTED TO THE MAINS,
otherwise the 1611 it will not function as expected.

Re: Avant, BC9500 - no sound output when linked

I had a similar setup and initially had no sound from the left hand channel - it turned out to be the lead connecting the BC9500 to the Beolink Converter. I would check that as it sounds like the converter is working since it is recognising commands and relaying them between your Avant and BC. I've also had a Beolink Converter that stopped working and it was confusing trying to work out the problem as there's no light or anything on it to indicate if it's working or not. Anyway, I would take a look at that lead first.

Re: Avant, BC9500 - no sound output when linked

    Thanks again everyone!

Andy and Vienna, have now checked, double checked and checked again both hardware and software setups and all is in the right place. Thanks ever so much for the info and running the configuration guide for me!

Louis and ajames, I am now definately suspecting either the Aux cable or the converter itself, will swap them out as soon as I get a chance, hopefully I'll find the problem!

Will post my findings for future reference.

Thanks again for everyones help, this really is a great site!

    Cheers
