Quite a big area! The reason there is a North American area is the fact that B&O tend to have a slightly different product range available. Think AV7000 and CMM-10. The Avant was also very different.

The Asian market seems far more like the rest of the world. The other question would be which language would you want? I would have no problems per se but the regional forums can sometimes miss out on answers compared to the General Forum so it might stagnate. If there were a ground swell of opinion for this though, I could see no problem in setting such a forum up. I could set up a poll if you wish. It does seem to me that the General Forum becomes the Asian and Oceanic forum at night already! Big Smile

... and i speak with a slight Northern accent, so could we have a 'from up't North' section?   Wink

Seriously though - if an Asia Forum will get used by lots of people, we'd be happy to host it.  We've tried to make BeoWorld as streamlined as possible with the minimum of different fora as possible.  This makes the site much easier to navigate and use - and i think we've pretty much got the balance right.

However, if we go to the trouble of creating one - then two people use it once every three weeks, it'll fall on its own sword in record time.. Erm

    Re: BeoWorld Asia??

I can certainly understand your concerns and, since I don't know how many of us Beoworlder's are from Asia, it is difficult to argue that a Beoworld Asia forum will be used often enough to justify its opening.  Having said that, I would venture to say that there is a fast growing number of B&O users and fans across Asia (I've been to over 15 stores in Asia myself) and that these users, like myself, would be interested in hearing about and sharing different experiences within the region.  Many people in Asia also speak English, so English would be the choice of language, IMHO.  For example, staff at B&O stores in cities like Beijing, Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur, Seoul, Tokyo all spoke relatively fluent English, enough to help consumers.  Also, since product launchings (and regional product modifications) in the region are different from other regions, it would be helpful to share such information.  For example, I was able to find a beosound 5 in Singapore over a year ago whereas it still hasn't been officially launched yet here in Seoul (at least to my knowledge).

This is a little different from wanting one on Clitheroe, IMHO.  :)

    Just my two cents.

    Re: BeoWorld Asia??

I will set a poll. I suggest a very simple one - how about:

Would you use a separate BeoWorld forum for Asia should one be set up? It would be an English language forum and would plan to cover issues specific to the Asian area.

    The answers could be:

Yes, I think this would be very useful.

No, I prefer using the General Forum.

I would prefer a different type of forum.

Would you change anything or add another question? I would suggest we need a minimum response and a positive vote in favour to make the changes. I would suggest that the forum needs about 20 active members to flourish.

I would like a B&o Asia forum but I don't think it would be popular. I think it maybe nice to have it and it could snow ball into a bigger forum. B&O is harder to come by and it would be good to have more people to share resource and see more in the classified section.

I agree that it may require more time but would be worth having an Asia forum to attract members and share information amongst existing ones.  I can certainly also inform my friends in the Korean B&O forum that I established (we have close to 1500 members) http://cafe.daum.net/BangOlufsen

I think we should shrink the amount of forums...

I visit Beoworld pretty much everyday, but recently there's very few posts, even on the General forum, making more and more "sub" forums, will make us users lost, and what we will end up with is questions, and interesting discussions being lost in the ever growing fora of more and more specific topic/region forums.

Since english would be the language of choice for the Asia forum, then why isn't the general forum enough? It has the most visitors, and posts, the odds of a topic will flourish there is the highest.

Sorry, to the OP, but I'm hard pressed to see the reason for an Asia forum. Surely things regarding our beloved B&O can't be that much different over there?

For instance my other favorite forum, "The Rolex Forums", does not have region specific forums, instead very little if no attention is put towards establishing where it's users are located, and concentrates the "general questions" and topics to the general discussion forum. This works very well.

One of the reasons for the fewer postings is a software problem that particularly affects those with high post accounts. This is the reason I now post as Doctor and not Peter!! We are about to sort this, at least on a temporary basis so hopefully traffic will go back to normal levels. I think queries are still being answered promptly though so don't be afraid to post!

If there already is a Korean forum, albeit elsewhere, would not the setting up of a rival forum on Beoworld be a little unfriendly? I would have thought the establishment of a link would possibly be a better route so that queries needing wider participation can come here. If you have set up such a forum, it would seem a shame to possibly diminish it.

    Re: BeoWorld Asia??

I don't think it would be unfriendly at all.  I think they would compliment each other well as we are a local forums and Beoworld and Beocentral, et al. are international and more established forums.  On the one hand, we like to hear about local deals, meet up to hear each other's setups and layouts and learn about local remedies (how to change your products from 110v to 240v, where to get fabric replacements for pentas, etc...)

fyi, we have had a link to your site for close to 4 years now as your site and beocentral have so much useful (especially technical) information filled with years of experience and knowledge.

the purpose for an Asia forum would be to unite regional (Asia as a region) members, knowledge, experiences, etc...

As per the article recently posted on B&O's future direction, Asia is indeed booming and I see B&O thriving throughout the region much more so than in other parts of the world that I visit.  obviously, I don't know sales figures or usage figures throughout the world, but i would suspect that Asian users are one of the fastest growing markets for B&O and I would assume, like myself and our forum members, that we all have experiences to share, questions to ask, etc...

sorry to drag this out... ultimately it's your decision but just thought i'd share my opinion.

I don't have a problem with this at all and you make some perfectly reasonable and well thought out points. My only concerns are with the amount of activity the forum will see. I will put up the poll - are you happy with the question asked?

Completely agree. As I see it the specific forums are in other languages (German, US ;-) etc.) OR for special interest (workbench, for sale etc.).

For me an Asian subforum doesn't make any sense...
