Internet Explorer update on a Beomedia 1?

Has any of you succesfully updated Internet Explorer on a Beomedia 1?

I often get at message saying that the browser is outdatet, and that a newer version should be installed, but I haven't been able to install a normal update. It never completes the installation. Is it because it runs on windows XP embedded?

Maybe you could install the latest one through USB?

Re: Internet Explorer update on a Beomedia 1?

I have tried again with IE7, IE8 and IE 9 - but with IE7 I get the message "Internet explorer installation did not complete. Restart your computer to remove any changes set up has made", and with IE 8 and IE 9 it says, that the OS does'nt support the IE version.

What do you think...should I just accept the fact, that the BeoMedia is an old an outdated computer and stop using it on the internet, or is there any way to get it to last a few more years as an computer?

Despite the problems with IE6, I still love the way it works with Netradio, Netmusic and Photos (even thougt Photos are working more and more slowly if the size of the photos are to big, but it helps to resize them...)

    Why don't you try Firefox.

I'm not sure, if Firefox or any other browser except from IE will work througt the main "Web" menu on the Beomedia, but of cource I can use it througt the "service" menu like a normal browser.

I'll give it a try... Thanks

Unless the programmers were morons, I suppose it should work if you let it set itself as the default browser (and forbid IE from doing the same, it'll ask on startup).

Re: Internet Explorer update on a Beomedia 1?

Well, I think that "morons" are a very hard word, because I love the way the Beomedia works...except from the web.

Now I have installed Google Chrome as my default browser, and when I use it througt the service menu, it works okay.

Chrome works fine, and IE 6 promts to be default browser on startup as you mentioned (but is not allowed). It's still a bit slow when I use it through the service menu, but if I use it for normal browsing (news, Beoworld etc.) it's okay. I connected a Logitech DiNovo mini bluetooth keyboard and that works well from the sofa together with a BV 7 40".

If I use it througt the main menu with the Beo4 and chooses the WEB menu, its back to IE version 6 with error messages, and it runs VERY slow. It's not worth using the internet througt this menu!

I just have to accept that it's an old computer...

    Thanks for your replies

For a peculiar reason… my Beomedia 1 has as you describe slow webpage loading through IE6, but since the last 2 days the webpages are black and white!!!!! Has anyone came across this thing??
