    Beolab 5000 vs 3000

    Hi All!

I have a pair of Beolab 3000 connected to my Beovision AV 9000 and I am amazed how well they sound!! The natural, smooth sound, with lots of depth (probably thanks to the wall mount) and most of all I like the "sound picture"…how they define every instrument when playing music or every detail in a movie.. I have Beolab 8000 and 6000 connected to my BV 3 in the living room, but I must say…I am even more impressed with the warm, live sound of the Beolab 3000 in my bedroom!

    My question:

I found a pair of Beolab 5000 for sale at a very resonable price but they probably need new fabric and the amplifiers have been replaced with amplifiers from a pair of BL3000.

    1. Is it possible to get new fabric to the BL 5000 "out of the box" ..just to replace the old ?

    2. What is the difference between the amplifiers on the BL3000 and the BL5000? Is it the same?…or should I perhaps skip this offer and look for a original pair?

    /Peter

I, and I am sure a few others... would like to know a source for it, especially the blue.

On another note, I had considered using 3000's as front channels but was concerned that the displays would be too distracting. As it would be a shame to not use the displays -I think they are brilliant LINK room speakers.

    I'm 95% sure they're the same.

According to Tim Jarman, the 3000 amplifier has slightly more bass lift to compensate for the much smaller cabinet.

    Peter :

And circuitry for that is pretty much limited to a single resistor (added in 5000). It's all in the service manual...

Never noticed a difference to be honest. I have several pairs, some genuine and some hybrid. Don't lose any sleep over it!!

    Thanks for the input, Guys!

Sounds great I don' t have to worry about the amplifier then...

Yes, the slope difference in the frequency response will be quite shallow with that circuitry. It'll probably even out with one notch of the bass setting, if that.

The mechanical part of the amp swap will be 5 minutes with a Torx screwdriver, so not much of a problem either Smile
