I seem to remember a thread on this, but can't seem to find it (maybe lost on the old forum)

Has anyone done this and can they give me some idiot proof guidance of how to do it in terms of cleaning, prep, what type of paint, lacquer etc.

I want to acheive as close as possible to the original B&O black. Currently they're the most disgustiing shade of "mustard that's been left with the lid off"!

I would be interested also - I have a mustard Beolit 707 that is faded - I had thought of Metlic Purple or Blue would be different.

Well I have a spare red cover that has a hole drilled into the side by a previous owner so he could fit a thumbwheel to tune it after the string broke

One of you is welcome to have it for free to test the results. Just PM me an address & I'll pop it in the post.

However, I personally wouldn't want to buy a painted Beolit so only do it if you intend to keep it. You could always ebay it and buy another in the colour of you choice or buy a broken/tatty one with good panels then swap the panels over and resell again.

Incidently the FM only model's side panels won't fit the AM/MW/FM models

What you need is Nextel paint - as used by a well known Danish manufacturer on some models.

I'm surprised that no one else has yet found the "easy fix" for faded panels amongst the talent that is the Beoworld membership.

A simple thorough clean followed by a couple of fine coats of clear lacquer usaully does the trick. You need to be VERY sparing when applying to prevent the holes in the grills becoming clogged/blocked.

You can judge how they will look before you do this by simply wetting them - this is the same finish that will be achieved with clear lacquer.

Yes of course, I will bring this panel home so you can have a good luck at it. It wasnt dried fully tonight but it seems really good!

i have a black paneled beolit and i use auto glyms bumper gel to nourish the plastics. i brought it back from the brink of no return, it works a treat!

to clean the magic doors on my beocenter 2300 i use auto glyms glass polish. apply to glass leave till it dries and its as simple as wipe off and then just buff to a nice deep shine.

to clean the avants i use mild water with a small drop of washing up liquid just wipe the screen, plastics then wipe with a dry cloth and i tell you this it cleans through fingerprints like a hot knife through butter! top tip, make sure you wring the cloth out before cleaning of excess water.

That action is REALLY unusual Nigel. The mustard coloured Beolits generally struggle to get anywhere near the price of other colours.

Not sure about them being rare either (sellers description), I've seen loads in that colour.

I have one 707 in that colour and have to say I like it as well I also have a black one and that was much harder to clean properly. I'll probably try that car wax approach later on it.

I can almost understand that oddball auction result seen above, as that particular radio seems extremely nice, apart from the handle and the battery tube.

Well, due to the incredible generosity of Trigi (Peter, from Denmark), Nickyg63 (Nick, from Nottingham), Stonk (Steve from Marlow) and help from Tim J., I now have a fully working Beolit that looks the cat's whiskers (so much nicer than the d's b....)

I realise that some will say the colour is not original, nor to their taste, but I (and more importantly SWMBO) love it.

A very sincere thank you to all who helped me with this project. To say I'm a happy bunny doesn't come close.
