    Oh deary, deary me..

We see some beautiful B&O products messed with, abused or ruined, but it seems other great brands get the 'treatment' occasionally.. and this one makes me want to cry!

Hmmm. The goal appears to have been to create a tricked-out Ford Escort look out of a Bentley?

Why not just buy a Ford Escort?

Oh dear! That eyesore is still on the roads as well, as far as I can tell. Well it has tax until the end of this month. Looks as though it was blue once in it's life. Bet it looked a lot better standard. Not sure if I could cope with 1600 CC or raw power.LaughingLaughing

I've never got all that 'modding' thing. Maybe i'm an old fogey (although even when i was young i didn't get it).

Why spend thousands and thousands of pounds making a car worth less than when you started?  Simply take your 1991 £1,000 Escort Cabriolet, add the £5,000 you're going to spend on it - and buy a £6,000 car which will be newer, more reliable and worth more when you want to sell it.

    Ah well.

What also seems to have changed I think, is what people buy for their cars now when modding them. These days it seems the way to go is to have the most OTT body kit and whatever engine it came with. All looks (if that's what you can call itHmm) and no go. When I was into modding cars it was all about tuning them, but leaving the looking as standard as possible. Real street slpeepers as we used to call them.

I love sleepers, my favorite has to be the 2003/2004 Mercury Marauder. It was US only but is very similar to the MG ZT 260. In fact the engine, trans and drive train are almost identical!!

EDIT: Or better yet, the Australian FPV set. The whole lot of them; the Typhoon, Gt, the utes, all of em - incredible.

The FPVs are awful things to drive, look up Holden HSV. They've got the same grunt but are much better cars than the Ford alternative.

I've never had the chance to drive any of them - would love to be able to do so, Holdens included! The Holdens did get a chance to shine in the U.S. in the guise of the Pontiac GTO. Still waiting for my opportunity to drive one.

Back in 2008 I was in Detroit at one of Ford's transmission plants and in their "pig pen" was an FPV ute, but they had put a rather inappropriate truck bed on it in place of the original. I was so excited to see it, I didn't even know how to express myself! I haven't heard much news on the "Falcon" project since. Initially, I was looking over the two heavily camoflaged All-new (new for '10 model year) Mustangs parked right next to it.

You have pretty good timing Jonathan, I am leaving for Detroit again in about 8 hours! This time for Ford's River Rouge facility.
