Pairing Cyrus equipment with Beolab 9

    Hi All,

Can anyone advise? I am looking to buy Cyrus CD Xt SE + DAC X and a matching pair of PSX's and thinking about partnering this with a pair of B&O Beolab 9's. Has anyone got experience of this pairing or opinions on how they may work together. I have owned Cyrus kit previously and heard the Beolab 9's, but struggling to dem them together.  Or can anyone advise on any other CD player and pre amp combination that works well.

    Cheers

    Nick

Should be just a simple task as having RCA cables to the speakers with an powerlink adaptor at the end for on/off control.

If you have volume control in your preamp.

Re: Pairing Cyrus equipment with Beolab 9

I'd be interested to hear such a combination. I did have some Cyrus components for a brief (!) period which I would pass on to be honest!

The BeoLab 9s don't exactly have a forward midband. Some people find they lack mids, but when set-up correctly, they sound stunning. I'd maybe look to go for something which complements, but contrasts this sound slightly. Something like a Naim 202 - very musical and lively, but with a big in-your-face midrange.

The only Naim CD players I've listened to would be the CD555 and the CD5 XS, and both were part of systems which sounded great to be honest. I couldn't really comment on them much more than this as I was also listening through different amps both times...

That's just my 2 cents anyway. Ultimately, I'd try whatever to try and demo your combination, but I'd say Naim with BeoLab 9s is a safer bet IMO. Bear in mind I haven't actually heard this combination so maybe I shouldn't comment at all! Erm

    Hi Nick,

I remember a German Audio journalist write a Beolab 9 test. He stated B&O has a special brochure with all cables in it. In the test the BL9 was directly connected with ONE special B&O cable to the NON B&O pre amp. I advise you to contact the B&O dealer. Special RCA cable to Powerlink is what you need. (This cable is also mentioned in the BL9 manual.)

    Cyrus DAC X Features

    • Digital Inputs - 6 SPDIF (4 coaxial and 2 optical)
    • D/A Outputs (unbalanced) - Fixed level stereo line output (via RCA jacks)
    • D/A Outputs (balanced) - Dual balanced (XLR jacks)
    • Silver Finish

    Regards, Robert

I don't think it's the actual connecting which is the issue here - that's very straight forward!

Nick is more interested in knowing what the combination will actually  sound like together...

    Hi Alex,

quite correct, its about the products sonic matching i.e too bright together etc. I listened to a pair of 9's on saturday and not as impressed with them as I thought, but it wasn't a proper dem so I will reserve judgement.

    Cheers

What didn't you find so impressive about them? Was there something in their sound you were expecting but didn't get?

Of all the speakers in the B&O range, I do think they are the most difficult to get the most out of! They have a tremendous amount of power in the lower registers, and coupled with the wide-dispersion acoustic lenses on the tweeters, the midrange can sometimes be a little shrouded if you're not careful with placement. That has been my experience with them anyway!
