    Project Beovox 3000

Some time ago I got myself a nice set of Beovox 2500 cubes which are in mint condition.

Reading this forum I found a thread where I read that the cubes should be or can be connected to several types of Beovox speakers eg. the Beovox 3000. Yesterday I found and bought the Beovox 3000 for 30 euro's and they still look great. However it needs some attention and I need some advise here from the experts. How can I have access to the inside of the speaker housing. I have tried to remove the speaker brackets but it looks that the speakers are glued cause it seems nearly impossible to get them out. I do not want to damage the wood. There is no access from the back is it? Reason why I want to have the speakers removed is because I want to do some sanding on the veneer.

Also some advise what to do next after sanding of the veneer. What should I use to keep it original as possible.

Is there any electronics inside that has to be replaced? Some picture of the 3000's.

If I remember correctly, you have to remove the bass driver to access the inside of the cabinet.

That's the problem, it's not possible to remove the driver (after I removed the four brackets). Looks like the driver is glued or something. I don't want use much force.Hmm or else I will damage the cabinetSuper Angry

They will come out, the rubber backing seal has probably just stuck itself after all these years.

Make sure you get some long sleeved latex gloves before lifting them out or you'll itch for a week from the rockwool.

Keep your vacuum handy when you lift out the rockwool and some plastic shopping bags to put it in.Then suck out any debris, even thugh you may not see it, its there.

Thanks, much appreciate your input! Will see if I can manage to get it open and come back later with the results. Curiuous what I can expect inside the cabinet!

Yes: the bass driver should come out just like that and behind the controls there's a pcb with the filter on it (on the inside of course).

Other than that and rockwool there shouldn't be much more in the cabinet :)

Sanding carefully with a high grade saning paper and than polish with beewax should do the job (this is what i remember from Frede, i asked him the same question regarding old Vox 5000).

Just be careful with your sanding, you dont want to sand through it!!

    Nice kit!

    Re: Project Beovox 3000

    There are three different types of the vintage Beovox 3000;

Mk I Type 6220 two-way with a dome tweeter (as the Ebay listing)
Mk II Type 6210 three-way with two cone tweeters and a cone midrange (as yours)
Mk III Type 6238 three-way with only one cone tweeter and a dome tweeter acting as midrange

Yours, with the Isophon PSL 245 woofer, is actually fairly rare to see. I never saw a pair in Denmark.
The other types have Peerless woofers, Type 6220 being the one most often seen in Denmark.

Nice project.  Yes - thumbs up

...and so have i....mind the 6220 don't seem to have the connection for the cubes.

Interesting though is that the 'dome' version is apparently older than the cone version ?? (one would expect the other way around, like with the vox 5000 where the old cones were replaced by domes).
