    BeoSound 8/Airport Express

    Hi Guys,

Does anyone know whether if you connect a BeoSound 8 to an Apple Airport Express whether it can be controlled by the BeoSound 8 remote?

In other words if it was connected by USB can it be controlled like a PC?

The USB of AirPort Express is just for printers. It is not useable for audio.

    Huh?

Of course it can be used for audio. With Airplay, that's one of its prime functions.

Unfortunately there's no control as it's an analog output to the system. You can, however, control it from your iPhone or iPad using Apple's remote app.

Trip, you're wrong here : the Airport Express USB is only for printers, Heribert was right. The audio output is only via the jack (both c**py analog and digital optical)

    Double huh?

Heribert is correct. You can't use the AE's USB for audio. It is for a printer. Hacks to the port have been indifferent.

Connect w/ a MINIJACK -to-> RCA and remote control via iTunes w/ an iPad, iPhone, or Touch.

Totally correct!!! Sorry, I missed the "USB" part and thought he was referring to the Airport Express. That also puts the OP in a different light. I should learn to read.

    +1

I know the USB port of the Airport Express and Extreme to be either for Hard Drives or Printers.  The Audio Jack in the AE's can do either digital or analogue.

No, as the BeoSound 8 doesn't have an optical input. If you really want to use a better DAC than the one built into the AirPort Express by utilising the optical output, then you want to buy a decent DAC with optical input!

I don't think you're going to be able to control the AirPort with the B&O remote though...
