    how rare is a ST9500 stand for BeOcenter 9000, 9500, 9300

    Hello,

I am engaged in a biding fight about a Stand for Beocenter 9300, I wonder if it is really worth USD 240.

Does anybody have an idea of how rare they are?

    Kind regards

    François

You do see them very much on eBay. If I could find one for that cheap I would buy one.

They are certainly not common, but it won't be the last one to surface for sale either.

It'll be well worth $240 if you think you need one - don't think there's much chance of getting one cheaper -  but IMHO not much sense in buying one to just to fill up a closet. It's a good looking stand, but just like many others, needs open space around it to look proper.

Condition is everything. I recently sold a very good one for £150 to a customer in Finland. Transport is the problem, they must be VERY well packed to survive in the courier system.

I have one with broken glass and one with the complete top missing, both poor condition. I use them as temp stands for anything as they are not really saleable.

So, the consensus seens to be 240 USD is not too much for it, although it is almost the price they did cost new....

One thing I did notice is that auctions are very competitive on ebay, when it comes to BeO products. I am not sure that  all deals are bargains.

Definately not bargains, but some listings end up being better value than others...

If you think "dirt cheap" with regard to "bargains", I agree with you. But there also some sales where I find the difference between used and new not enough anymore to justify a used purchase on the internet, with all its inherent risks.

I saw recently beovox 5000 in really less than pristine condition go for 500 EUR, I would never spend this kind of money on soso equipment.

Maybe I am to risk adverse, or to greedy...

The obvious catch being of course, that Beovox 5000's - or really anything like them - aren't made any more. And just like this stand, they will be hard to ship, so it could be worth it to pay a bit more for a local pair.

Having said that, I'm glad I completed my white BS6500 with the Beogram some years ago. Looking at the current prices, I'd never pay that much for such a piece of plastic!

The price when new is totally irrelevant.

If you could still buy them new, your arguement makes sense.

Most of the stuff on ebay is not available new, if you want a new ST9500 you will go to your grave waiting, 'cos B&O don't make 'em any more!

In the real world, if you are not prepared to pay the going rate, then you don't really want one.

    Graham

I could not possibly disagree more with you. Well, actually I could, but I really like the expression Stick out tongue

The new price gives me an idea of what B&O was asking for them, and people willing to pay, obviously. From there, I can try to infer what could be an acceptable price.

Of course, I could spare myself the whole gymnastic and focus on my key interest, which is listening to music while trying to introduce my linux computer to the Beo4. For that, I would need to know the "going rate" which is....

Since this kind of equipment, even under BO afficionados, is no commodity, I would be very surprised if there were anything like a going rate.

You sold one for £150, which is less than $240 at which it his hovering. but more than the CAN179 I found. It is in line with the USD 229, but way bellow the CHF 300 and 391 (!) that are the nearest to my home.

I am not looking for a precise price, but rather some range or an indication. IMHO the price for a ST 9500 is in the region of USD/CHF 200 to 300. The new price was in 1995 £220. Since a stand like that can hardly decay, it is logical that it price shall remain in the same range. Of course, mode could have send its price downward, and collector prices sent it up, but theses forces seems to equilibrate currently.

    Kind regards

it gives a complete new meaning to the French expression "quand on aime on ne compte pas".

Have a good night everybody. The guy in the auction upped me again, I think I will give up... at least for today

What's £220 in 1995 to now with inflation?

    Large48:

What's £220 in 1995 to now with inflation?

    Hello Large,

with an estimated inflation of 3% over 15 years, £220 translate in £343, or Swiss francs 514 (ca. USD 500).

For my guestimating which is a really coarse method, but better than nothing, I set the inflation equal to the depreciation/wear and tear of the object. So I would be prepared to pay, everything else being equal, the same price as for a new object. (CHF 330 for the ST9500).

Of course "everything else" is never equal:

    • state of the object
    • expected life
    • technological obsolecence ('93 is the year of a pentium, would you buy any pentium computer, at any price?)
    • broker/pro seller who gives found the place, vewtted it and give a guarantee.

But I need a first figure to assess the worth of the deal, and no, I am not a believer in "market forces" and other "invisible hands", I am an old fashioned Frenchman, after all Stick out tongue.

I finally purchased the ST9500 for 285 Swiss Francs.

I know for sure that I could have gotten for less, I am also sure that if I had not purchased it, all the subsequent offers would have been more expensive...

    Be seing you
