Before anyone suggests it, it apparently cannot be easily rewired for another mains voltage. According to the service manual, both the transformer and the electrical chassis are different between EU/GB and USA/CAN/Taiwan types. So the only option is the step down transformer, but I don't know how feasible it is at those power levels.

I suppose a service centre could replace the transformer and chassis to essentially convert it to another type, but it must be terribly expensive.
