The Apple TV menu interface only works with iTunes libraries. However, there are some UPnP apps for the iPad that work brilliantly. They show the cover art, tags, and categories of what's on the BeoMaster 5. Then, you can simply stream the music to the Apple TV using AirPlay. I find the iPad to be the ideal way of browsing through music. The touch-responsive interface makes scrolling and searching much faster.

    Carolpa:

I just used the Windows Explorer or Finder (Mac), I can't remember which one, to copy a Flac file to the BM5. The file tag was read and the content was played by the BS5 without any problems

I tried connecting using Finder, but do not know what "user id" to use when connecting.  Do you know what user id one uses to connect to the BM5?

I guess I can copy the files to a windows box and use Explorer (as BeoPlayer automatically mounts the BM5 so I don't have to know the user id), but this is a pain because I cannot get my Windows box to talk directly to my Mac (has something to do with how the networking is configured on Windows - the Windows box is for work and I don't have full control over it).

    Hi Stan

start BeoConnect and make a connection with the BS5/BM5.

    go to Finder

make a connection with the BM5; if fails then make a connection as

BEOMASTER5\BM-USER  (note: your system can also be named "BEOMASTER 5"; you should look it up in the BS5)

    your PASSWORD

    succes

    Hi Stan,

I finally managed to connect using Finder.

User ID in my case was BM-USER

Password as stored on the Beosound 5 (the same as used in BeoConnect)

    Kind regards

BM5 can act now as a UPnP device. I can address the BM5 in XBMC/Plex on the iMac (unfortunately is WMA lossless in XBMC/Plex not supported, but Flac is as from now supported by the BS5/BM5).

Note: for the BS5 only one Music server can be chosen.

The info from the update mentiones something about a "approved B&O server".

What's a approved B&O server? Sold by B&O? UPNP, SAMBA or NFS based?

Where can I find the preference "Server On"?

Haven't got  much time, but my BM5 did the update without any struggles, no errors, no messages.

All UPnP servers seem to work. The same for NAS (B&o advises QNap) I use a Netgear ReadyNas.

    Works fine

     "Server on":

Read the update in the FAQ (BS5 faq - site B&o) carefully. You have to go to the service menu's. This option is normally NOT shown

    beojeff:

After turning the "music server" option "on", the "BeoMaster5" now shows up on the PS3 menu! Complete with tags, cover art, and navigation. In fact, it also includes "genre" for navigation - a feature that the BeoSound 5 sadly lacks. I'm eager to see if this shows up on network-connected blu-ray players as well.

Can you play WMA Losless files via PS3 or is that impossible?

Hope somebody get's the Beo 6 to work fine with the Beosound 5, too - than I'm gonna buy the Beo 6 :)

The PS3 would not play the WMA Lossless files.

Does the Beo6 have 2-way communication with the BeoSound 5 yet or does it still only function like the Beo5?

    I'm a little lost here....has Beo5 changed name to Beo6? Is Beo6 launched?

I run BS5/BM5 with new software and use BeoConnect with my iMac to download all music. Now the question is....can BS5 recognize my Itunes library and display it right away through the network so I don't have to have double copies of the music? Please let me know how to set this up if anyone knows!

The screen is different and it has wifi. And you can buy it:

OK....I suppose ML Gateway supported then....I think I would use my Iphone with that product however. The BeoLink app seems great!

Anybody got a clue how to make BS5 discover a Mac with the new software then?

You need to run a UPnP server. an example is Majestic, XBMC is another option.

I am very disappointed that they are still not supporting Apple Lossless.

If Sonos can do it, they must be able to do it.

Flac may support the gapless playing issue for the macworld, but I can't maintain that as a library that syncs with Ipod.

They either have to make gapless compressed AAC work or give me gapless Apple Lossless which I believe by definition is gapless if the original was.

Great! Thanks for sharing this info! I run something similar to a PS3 that i have connected to BV10....but Majestic seems easy!

Edit: I run MediaLink UpNp and BS5 discovered my Mac now....but no files visible yet....suppose it takes a while when you have 60GB of Music in Itunes....I'll wait and see otherwise I will runt the BM5 harddrive and continue copying my selected files through BeoConnect.....

That ought not to take too long. 60GB is not that much - certainly not if you use lossless. If it's 128kbps mp3/mp4s, I'd agree that it's quite a lot.

Most of it is AAC from Apple and MP3.....but I there is a lot of rubbish music there as well...I better keep my BM5 clean with nice covers...what was great about this new upgrade is that I now can access BM5 through my PS3....but I will probably stick to BS5 to view music and scroll.....I only wish B&O would allow more than 99 tracks in the favorites list....I have Itunes lists that are about 200 songs and would like to colour code with B&O....eg green button is soft music....now I have to create several lists with 99 songs in each....bummer!

The Beo5 have been discontinued, shops may still have some. Beo6 is the new Beo5. The price has gone up a bit. The screen is wider, with better resolution and a different touch technology. It also has build in Wi-Fi.

At some point there will be an update for BeoSound5 (not sure if it is the one that have just been pushed), making it possible to browse cowers on the Beo6.

does this mean your transfer all your music lossless to your iPod?

at home I use lossless flac and wma and they are as the word say "lossless" so I do not need Apple lossless

on the way I use AACplus files of the same music. to me it seems a little bit over the top to use lossless music from a mp3 player when you are in a sound unfriendly environnement

actually it can contain more than 99 song. but you must change the settings with Beoplayer. Maybe then even the playlist has to made with the BP. I never make a playlist directly on the BS5

the BS5/BM5 can only access ONE music server at the time. It is the BM5 internal harddrive OR a one external UPnP server (see the faq on the B&o site)

Note: people associate AAC with Apple but it isn't "from" Apple. Apple did choose this type of compression. Apple lossless though is developed by Apple
