    My B&O wishlist for 2011

... and it's realy not that much asked for..

the BeoSound 5 (Encore) has a stunning interface... that you can't control if the BeoSound is across the rooms... so.. an app for the iPad that mimics the UI of the BS 5.. now that would be an application where I'm willing to spend some Euro's on!

Beo5/6 are nice devices... but don't have have the "Whow" UI interaction...

The race for quality has no finish line- so technically, it's more like a death march.

I don't really like not having at least some hardware buttons, nor do I think the iOS has any "Whow" UI interaction the moment it is in use. I much prefer useability and functionality to eye candy. And as such, I'm not going to want to have a remote that doesn't do IR, nor one that is all touch screen. I don't want to have to look at a screen constantly, I like something more tactile.

Besides, when it comes to "whow" factor, I really don't get that from an iPod Touch or iPhone. It's limited, full of useless eye candy, it's a commodity, and in my mind, it is a lowest common denominator product. Like McDonald's.

No, with the Beo6 and the BS5 Encore, I will hopefully be able to buy something outstanding that is close to what I want at last.

And that is my wish list: That the Encore and Beo6 in combination will surpass my TTB, so I can buy it. If not at first, then a bit later this year with one or two firmware updates.

    Edit: Clarification and grammar

    True for iPhone/iPod

That's why the iPad (or any other device with a descent screen) is perfect...  almost the same screen size as the BS5; so a little adaptation and the UI could be running on the iPad/tables...

No, it just makes the touch screen bigger, but doesn't actually alleviate the other problems but rather introduces other: The iPad is huge as a remote, and unless you lay the (very glossy and reflective) screen flat on the table, it is a two handed operation to do the simplest of things, not to mention extraordinarily heavy compared to something smaller.

I still don't want to swipe away to do the simplest of things. It's much more movement of the wrist than is needed. Not that I don't have the time, nor that I'm lazy, but why herald an interface that is very ineffective as something to aim for.

I really can't see any reason that makes the iPod/iPhone/iPad better as a remote overall.

In this context, I consider a remote to a be a tool, and to argue that the iPod/iPhone/iPad would be better is akin to arguing that a sledge hammer with a titanium head makes for a good sledge hammer as it doesn't rust - completely forgetting about the useability part (i.e. the idea of a lightweight sledge hammer utterly defeats the very purpose of a sledge hammer).

That is not to say B&O shouldn't take cues from such things, but I feel they have with the Beo6 as it is a 2-way remote, using WiFi.

    Edit: Grammar and forgotten words
