Beovision 4 42 with Beosystem 2 or 3
I've got a question:
In our living room we've got a wonderful but non full HD Beovision 4 42. It came with a Beosystem 2. I know the tv is not full HD, but HD ready.
For the moment I can get a Beosystem 3 for a reasonable price. My question now is: Will this be worth the cost and will it increase the picture quality of my BV4 if I use a BS3 instead of a BS2?
What will be the difference?
Thanks a lot for your answers!

If you can afford it, go for it!
You can replace the panel for a newer version in the future.
You'll get 4 hdmi inputs and some other all controlled by the puc.
Another benefit is that the menuoverlay will be showed with every source.

Depends...
I am sure your picture qualtiy watching normal TV will not increase that much.
But, if you intend to
- ugrade your screen to full hd (panasonic professinal display can be used....), or
- want to connect a blue ray player via HDMI connection, or
- want to watch digitally stored content via a device that has HDMI only, or
- buy a sony playstation for gaming, or
- ...
You might want to get the BS3 just to be ready for this!

Re: Beovision 4 42 with Beosystem 2 or 3
It probably won't make a huge impact on your current screen, but getting it opens a lot of possibilities, such at third party screens etc...
However, the BS3 is expensive, so depending on how good a price you'll get you could probably get a new BV10 40" for the same price? Given it's not a BS3, but probably better than a BS3 with an "outdated" non full HD screen...

Re: Beovision 4 42 with Beosystem 2 or 3
Thank you all for your answers.
Since there's no DVI-D input on my Beovision 4 42, I have decided to buy a Panasonic Full HD plasma screen. I was thinking of the TH42PF20E. Maybe I will try to build it into the frame of my BV4.
Does anyone know if this is a compatible model with the Beosystem 3? Will I be able to control it with my Beo4 or Beo5?
Thanks again for your help, that's very much appreciated!

Well he, some people do have to work, you know
To my knowledge you can combine your 4-42 with the bs3 over DVI to VGA.
Try it first before you order a new panel.
The panasonic instructions, which are send over the RS232 cable, are pretty common. So at least switching on/off should work.
If you get the newest pana panel you have should ask your dealer whether the pana panel is supported.
Like the bs2, you can set the correct panel in the service menu.

Re: Beovision 4 42 with Beosystem 2 or 3
You can use Panasonic Pro panel. I have a 42" D9 panel built into a beovision 5 frame connected to a BS3. In order to make my autocontrast to work I had to set my panel to a BV4-50 D9. Maybe a bit strange but it works. I don't know if the latest panels will work.
Be aware that in the service menu you need to set autodetect to 'no'.
If anyone knows the difference between a BV4 and a Panasonic panel, please let me know. I always thought the difference was due to the DVI module because in the BS3 menu the 'socket type' is empty.

Re: Beovision 4 42 with Beosystem 2 or 3
thank you all for your kind help. I bought the Beosystem 3 and now I am looking for a Panasonic plasma (I prefer full HD, as I will connect digital tv and a PS 3 to it). I'll go for a 42 inch, because the viewing distance is quite close to the screen. Also I'm planning to fit it into a BV4 frame.
I will keep you guys posted!
