    Another iPod dock!

For those of you not enamoured with the Beosound 8, B&O are releasing the iPort which is made by Sonance. This small device allows your iPod or iPhone to be controlled using your Beo4 and on screen displays anywhere in the house. (You clearly need the linked TV to be in view!) It uses PUC software to control the device. Maybe useful for a second home so you can use the iPod as a mini server.

The Sonance site reveals they've already have had the docks for a while:

    IR

IR+RS232 (like so many home "automation" systems)

    IR+video output for TV hookup

The question is: will we just get a special Beo4-compatible IR eye version (like Lutron does for B&O)... or will we require a B&O Gateway that can communicate via RS232 to the dock?

Obviously the second option is a brain-dead non-starter for many people.

Interesting yes, but who would buy one of theese now that Apple has introduced airplay in IOS 4.2. ? If you instead buy a cheaper (almost for certain) apple tv, you can stream music, videos and pictures from your iphone to the tv without having to dock it somewhere...

The IPort dock comes with IR connection, so you simply connect a wire from your IR out on your B&O equipment to the IR in on the IPort.

    B&O PUC is already available.

The UK price for the Sonance FS23 (their only stand alone dock that offers display on external TV) is £495.

Generally speaking, you aren't learning much if your lips are moving.

    Works well even plays videos!

Would be nice to have a component video pass through with composite conversion then we could modulate ie send it around analogue links.

This is what I have wanted for so long - will it be available in the dealers - there probably is a big market for this - well for those us that have Avants and older TV's that can't easily integrate with Apple TV

    Hi

I have major difficulties finding a point with this. In my world it would be interesting if iPhone/Pod/Pad could control B&O equipment. This sounds like the opposite. I try to use Beo4 as little as possible. It is no good remote, you can not see graphically what you are doing, bad user Interface, no two way e t c. It is good looking and has good buttons though, but is just a tool.

If B&O could instead deliver something to control beo4 via iPhone, like a very light Master Link Gateway, would be very nice thank you.

    Have a nice day

What you're talking about is the ML Gateway.  No need at all for a "light" one really.

Also, I don't expect this iPort to be that big of a deal.  It's just a PUC controllable iPod dock.  As far as I know it won't work with iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad.  Your only option for video is component (ie no Matrix switcher) and it's priced pretty high for what it does.

On an interesting note though this is the first PUC device I've seen which you can actually control using direct Hex commands (ie. IR plug ... not flasher).  Thats what I'm a little more interested in!

The Lintronic box can also accept remote commands directly via scart or datalink. This solution seems really elegant - but pricey - you can do the same thing for £200 with a lintronic box and Onkyo dock. The graphical interface though is much better on the sonance and it will be easier to setup./

Does anyone know if the STB-C software for older TV's will be updated to controll this?

Yeah.  Same here.  Me, I have a $10 cable which can hook our iPhones to the Aux-In on our BS 3000.  I've used it a handful of times throughout the years, most recently a few weeks ago.

When one already has the entire music collection hooked up to the MasterLink network via BeoPort, docks simply don't make much sense at all.

As the sheep stated it can be viewed on TVs throughout the house, does that imply Masterlink connectivity?

It will attach to the main room set and, as it works via PUC, it will behave just like any other source connected to the main set. The ML works via the TV.

Razlaw, the only way to get the ipod dock view on multiple TV's is with RF video distribution. While common with ROW B&O TV's, it  is only available with a limited number of US spec BeoVisions. In your set-up the BV7 supports RF video distribution, but not the BV10.

Noticed this on the B&O website today. The Beo5 looks to have an awfully wide screen, beo6 anyone or just an odd angle? I know Puncher has mentioned pricing for the Sonace equivalent, but have we got B&O pricing yet?

Have you noticed where a search for Beo6 on the B&O website takes you? Straight to the page with the 'widescreen Beo5'. Could be barking up completely the wrong tree, but the speculation is enjoyable. I like the form factor, real or not!
