    DVD2 vs. Beocenter 2

My setup contains a Beocenter 2 connected to Beosystem 3 / BV4 -50. I'm planning to add a DVD2 to my setup. Since I almost never hear radio over BC2,  I am wondering if there would be any need for the Beocenter 2 after adding the DVD2. My dealer said that CD music quality of the DVD2 may not be as good as in Beocenter 2. Can anybody confirm that ? Thanks.

    Best,

    Erhan

Interesting question. The DVD2 is more versatile in some ways but is really a reboxed Philips. The BC2 is B&O through and through! (With a Pioneer drive!) I doubt that there will be much difference in sound quality. I don't know if the DVD2 can be an audio master though, but I doubt it.

    Hi Peter,

thanks for your quick reply. You're right about the audio master issue. Since DVD2 will have no display, listening to music would demand the plasma running all the time. On the other hand I can turn it off with FORMAT 0. I'm really starting to tend towards the DVD2 instead of the BC2, because I love the clean designed aluminium box. Somehow, I became tired of the roundish and flamboyant BC2 design. And I can also listen to internet radio over Apple TV.

    Best,

I can understand that. The DVD2 outwardly has some of the charm of the 7000 system. However I am a little wary as I am not completely convinced that it will integrate as well as it could and I am not totally enamoured with its menu system. However this is all based on documentation rather than any hands on so I will reserve final judgment until seen.

Have you already seen the DVD2 menu system ? Is there any more information about DVD2 in the net ?

I agree with the mentioned charm of the 7000 system.

The user manual is on site in the manual section. If you upgrade to silver or Gold you can simply download it.

So is the DVD2 available now?

Very nearly! I think it has been delayed by a week or so (seems normal practice!) but it should be in soon. Your dealer will know all about it!

Wait, what?  How?  My AppleTV doesn't do that...

    Re: DVD2 vs. Beocenter 2

I finally added a DVD2 to my setup. The DVD2 on top of the Beosystem 3 is an eye candy. Comparing picture quality of both DVD players didn't show any difference. So far I'm happy with my acquisition, except that the handle of the front hatch would brake at the first day. It's a very fragile peace of plastic and I believe it's a real construction flaw that should be adjusted by B&O.

They are not going to do anything with your "construction flaw" particularly as it is a discontinued product.

Well, at least B&O is going to compensate for repair of that tiny plastic part. I'm wondering where that information about DVD2 as a "discontinued product" comes from ? Or is it going to be updated ?

    Re: DVD2 vs. Beocenter 2

Apparently, all dealers were informed some weeks ago that the DVD2 has been discontinued and whilst they have a few left in stock, once they were sold, it would be the end of the product. Certainly there will be no updated DVD2 because it is not even made by B&O

    Regards Keith....

    Re: DVD2 vs. Beocenter 2

Yes, I know. The DVD recorder inside is produced by Phillips, but that doesn't explain why this line should be discontinued. Since the DVD2 represents B&O's new line of design (together with HDR2 and BS3) a replacement should be on the way. A "DVD3" with BluRay would make sense. My dealer confirmed that a new disc player is on the way (end of year) but couldn't confirm the discontinuation of the current DVD2 at this time.

I like the combination of HD recorder and disc player by the way.

Has anybody meanwhile noticed differences in quality between DVD2 and Beocenter 2 ?
