    Beocord 9000

    Hi,

Ihave a problem in that when you put the player in play mode, it starts and immediately shuts off. Does this sound like a normal service problem?

                                            Thanks,

                                             Bill

Sounds like it needs new belts. Very common problem. Martin (Dillen on site) can supply new ones.

Can I squeeze in here and ask how much these are worth when fully working?

    Step1:

Can I squeeze in here and ask how much these are worth when fully working?

That depends on the market, but just around 60-90£ is my guess.

A little mean I think. The 9000 is relatively rare and is a very complex tape recorder with excellent performance. I would suggest that a perfect one could easily reach £150 and more if boxed. Extra value adding accessories would include the azimuth aligning tape and tape head cleaning set as well as the original manuals.

    Re: Beocord 9000

The reason I ask is because I was quite surprised when a non working example went for just over £100 on ebay yesterday! This included some minor scratches to the metal keypad too! There were other items by the same seller that went for a surprising amount considering the condition too. Only good deal was the CDX2 IMO which went for about £40 if I remember correctly!

@Soren I think I am moving to your country... B&O plentifully distributed round the local tips (Wink) and under-valued cassette decks / record players a-plenty Cool

There are bargains to be had. A friend bought a working Beogram 4000 with good MMC20CL for £20. But not on eBay!

Mine starts,  shuts off after a half second. The right reel never rotates, while the left will feed it tape momentarily.  Do we still say that, that is belts.  I was told the clutch has a broken plastic part. Looking under the cassette tray, without reoving anything, I can see nothing broken.

    Re: Beocord 9000

Will the right reel rotate at wind/rewind ?
If not, it will need some servicing. The reels are lubricated with a thin grease, or at least
it was quite thin when applied, it dries in and hardens over the years, making the reel rotate less willingly.
It can also be a brake fault but that is rare, unless the deck was taken apart and put together the wrong way. The brake
system is not particularly easy to put together. You have to hold s couple of arms and levers in place while assembling.

I can supply new belts if needed but a frozen right reel does not necessarily mean bad belts.
The deck stops because it can't feel the tape running when the right reel is frozen, just as at tape end.

    Re: Beocord 9000

    Hello,

The possibilities are many. Martin is of course right.

I've repaired four of these units, so I have seen different problems arise, and often a combination of them!

First of all, if the belts are present (!) a PSU problem can prevent the motor from being fed at all. For me, the 7915 regulator was defective.

Then, yes, the clutch (12135) will probably be bad, with a cracked bearing housing. This allow the sintered bronze bearings to slide inside the housing and this can cause many problems, because the pulley will rub on the housing hence creating a braking effect, itself the cause of a blown fuse (on some versions) or the aforementioned poor 7915 failure...

On the four Beocords I repaired it was cracked. This is fixable, but you will be careful to have the sintered bearings slightly out, I'd say by 0.2 mm.

Then many capacitors (the red ERO ones) will have to be replaced because they will be partly shorted, thus creating all sorts of strange behaviours.

The motor could of course be defective—was it noisy prior to failure?

By the way, web43 never came back to report... I find it sad that some won't bother posting when their problem is solved. That's just NOT how it works here!

    Re: Beocord 9000

I really appreciate the information.  Yes, the tape will wind and rewind, so the right wheel is not frozen. When you rewind, the tape counter blinks on and off with 4 small case letter c's  illuminating,.  Small case being only the lower half of the display ( cccc ).   When you fast forward, it blinks 4 backward small case letter c's.   When you stop it after a wind or rewind, the display is all 0's except the first digit is small case letter c that blinks and alternates between a and forward and backward letter c.  Turn the unit off then back on and the display reads 0's.

All of the leds appear to work, as, when you press any of keypad numbers, the counter  appears to display the various numbers as normal.

I also have a BC8004. Can it donor mechanical mechanisms to the BC9000.

I just turned Gold, so I will be looking at manuals

    Thanks
