    Tuning past 104 with a Beomaster 3000-2?

I'm in the UK & usually listen to BBC Radio 3, sometimes Radio 4, which are 91.0 & 93.2MHz. However, a friend asked about listening to a ("headbanger's") programme at the top end of the dial - around 106. (I do know that this region exists... I just prefer not to go there usually!).

Does anyone have any experience of modifying the Beomaster 3000 & 4000 to receive the high frequencies, which I think were only for 'emergency service' use when the receiver were first sold? I realise that, if modified, the tuning scale would be even less use than it is now; but could, perhaps, one or two of the presets be modified and 'tuned by ear'?

    Thanks for your thoughts,

    Adam K, London.

Actually, some 3000's with 108 mHz scale were made, but they are not as common as the one with 104 mHz scale Wink

I don't know if the tuner (variable capacitor) is the same on the two, it is likely that your tuner is only made for going to 104 mHz.

I haven't had a look at the schematics for the BM3000, but if it is a voltage-tuned unit, you can certainly modify it. The tuning scale just wouldn't be accurate.

I did my BM3400 like that.

You'd need to look at the schematics to determine if your's is a voltage-tuned unit.

Learn from the mistakes of others - you'll not live long enough to make them all yourself!

If it has station presets, it is most likely voltage tuned. Because that would be very hard to do with variable caps.

Beomaster 3000 build series 1-3 goes to 108MHz
Series 4 and later only goes to 104MHz.
