    Beogram 5500 CD

Hi, Can anyone help with advice on where we can go to get our Beogram 5500CD repaired. We are near Stockport but anywhere in Manchester area would be ok. Our local B & O shop haven't been able to help, and we can't get them to tell us what part is needed.

If anyone talks to B & O in Wilmslow perhaps they could find out for us.  They tell us they use a guy named Ray (lives in Edgeley I think) who they say has had a look, but we don't feel very confident.

    Any Help please  5290mavis

The only thing I can strongly recommend is packing it up good and send it to Dillen here in Denmark who is a highly skilled technical guy that can fix it for a fair price. Even if any former repairs were done he will correct it right to the factory specs.

If you want to still enjoy it for years to come then its the best thing to do.

    What's the problem with it?

he first problem we had was a flutter on the sound (like the sound was stuck) when it became impossible to listen to we sent it to our local B & O dealers, they had it for months said the parts needed were not avalable (can't find out from them what parts).  We got it back from them and now it won't play, when we load a CD and press play, the word track lights up but the track numbers don't (which they should do).

We don't know where to go from here, the system is wired all over the house so we don't want to replace it, we still play records which along with the tape and radio play and sound great.
Do you think you can help, we live near Stockport, Cheshire.
    Thanks  Mavis

Hi Mavis, Seems like a problem with the head unit to me. I'd suggest contacting our members as mentioned above and they might give you a solution. Best regards Spiros

If you want to try another dealer near you then I suggest B&O, King Street, Manchester. They are members on this forum and seem to be quite helpful with older equipment. They will of course be fairly pricey.

    or

You could contact member Nobby (Neil Briffett) on this forum. He is in Farnham in Surrey. He will probably suggest that you pack it in a box and send it down to him. He will most likely be cheaper than the B&O dealers.

In all probability, unless the laser diode has failed, which is most unlikely, the fix will be the relatively simple C2103 problem with which many of us are familiar. Your local dealer probably had no one out of nappies who could look at it and gave you the standard "parts are no longer available" rubbish excuse. This happens time and time again and the official service operations, who use this excuse as cover for their own inadequacy, should be ashamed.

    Rant over!

    Regards Graham

    Re: Beogram 5500 CD

Well said!! Although I can confirm that my local techs (official service) have restored absolutely everything I have taken to them all these years. Actually I have one CD5500 for repair at the moment and should already be ready.

    Best regards
